TURNERS FALLS — A small fire that started on the back porch of a building on Avenue A Tuesday afternoon caused minimal damage to the exterior of the structure and was extinguished before firefighters arrived on scene.
Turners Falls Fire Capt. Michael Currie said the fire was caused by a cigarette ember, and did not spread from the second-story porch where it started. The Montague Police Department was the first to arrive on scene after receiving a report of a structure fire at 177 Avenue A just after 1 p.m.
“Upon our arrival, the fire was out,” Currie said.
He said there were no injures and the fire did not extend to the interior of the building.
