GREENFIELD — Police arrested a 30-year-old woman on several charges, including possession and trafficking of drugs after finding about $3,000 worth of drugs in her car.
Jennifer Madsen, of Armory Street, was arrested at 4:33 a.m. Sunday morning at the Cumberland Farms on Federal Street after responding to a welfare check of the Greenfield resident who was “slumped over” in the rear seat of her running vehicle.
The charges included operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, possession of a Class C drug, clonazepam, possession of three Class B drugs — cocaine, methylphenidate, oxycodone (with the intent to distribute), and with trafficking in opium.
Madsen is being held on $5,000 bail at the Franklin County House of Correction.
Greenfield Police Department Lt. William Gordon said the police are trying to do its part in the continued battle with the opioid epidemic.
“We’re continuing to do the work that we can do to get the drugs off the street,” Gordon said. “With the amount of drugs stemming from every direction, it’s not an easy job to do.”
Gordon noted the report last week that indicated that Franklin County and Greenfield saw a decline in the number of deaths from opioid-related usage, but cautioned its still too high.
“Any death is traumatic and having multiple deaths due to this situation is extremely sad,” Gordon said on the six opioid-related deaths in the town in 2016. “We’re doing what we can and I think things are on the upswing.”
