The wins keep piling up for Mohawk Trail Regional High School.
The Warriors made it seven of their first eight games on Monday afternoon. With the score tied 5-5 in the fifth, Mohawk scored two runs and added another in the sixth en route to an 8-6 victory over Pioneer Valley Regional School in a Franklin County League softball game in Buckland.
Shelby Sinistore, Morgan Roccio and Ashley Reynolds had two hits each for the Warriors. Reynolds drove in two runs, while Ashley Walker and Ashley Johnston also registered RBI.
Pioneer, which trailed 4-0 after one inning but tied the game with four runs in the top of the second, held a 9-8 edge in hits. Kaylee Gibson had two hits, while Lizzie Fuller drove in a pair of runs at the dish. Jess Scoville and Stephanie Scoville also drove in runs for the Panthers (3-5, 2-3).
Lydia Donahue continued to pitch well for Mohawk (7-1), as she went the distance. Donahue struck out two and walked four to earn the win. Fuller tossed a complete-game for Pioneer (seven strikeouts, three walks).
Frontier 14, Mahar 0 (5) — Four players finished with at least three hits on the day, as Frontier Regional School blasted past Mahar Regional School, 14-0, in a five-inning FCL game Monday afternoon in Orange.
Freshman Natalie Denkiewicz hit a solo home run for Frontier (2-4, 1-3 FCL), and finished with four hits on the day. Ava Harper also had four hits, including a pair of doubles and five RBI, while McKenzie Patterson and Sarah Meunier registered three hits apiece in the win.
Junior Lauren MacDonald allowed five hits, all singles, to pick up the shutout. MacDonald struck out three and walked four.
Mahar’s Lani DeDiego had two of her team’s five hits.
Athol 23, Hopkins 11 (6) — Trailing 11-7 in the fourth inning, Athol High School’s offense woke up just in time Monday afternoon. The host Red Raiders scored eight runs in the fourth and four more in each of the next two innings, pulling away from Hopkins Academy for a 23-11 victory in a six-inning FCL game.
Athol (4-3, 3-2 FCL) amassed 23 hits in the win, with eight different batters recording multiple hits. Hailey Bigwood had four hits, including a home run over the fence, and four RBI, while Brej Geise also hit a home run as part of her three-hit outing.
Angelica Baptista and Hope Parker also had three hits, and the duo combined to drive in six runs. Destiny Ricko, Amber Leadbetter, Jess Soucie and Julia Carey had two hits apiece for Athol.
Soucie, who drove in three runs at the dish, picked up the win in relief after pitching the final four innings (four strikeouts, six walks).
FC Tech 20, Westfield Tech 4 (5) — A return to the Tri-County League made for a nice bounceback effort for the Franklin County Technical School softball team on Monday.
The host Eagles scored at least four runs in every inning, thumping Westfield Technical Academy for a 20-4 win in a five-inning TCL contest in Turners Falls.
Two days after being run-ruled by Greenfield High School, Tech (5-3, 5-0 TCL) rebounded with a 13-hit attack against Westfield. Shayla Demers had four hits to pace the Eagles offense, including a double, and three RBI. Hailey Jackson and Cassie Harris had two hits apiece, with Harris smacking a double and a triple. Jackson drove in two runs, while Eliza Kelton drove in three in the win.
Jocelyn Crowningshield earned the win for Tech tossing three innings, striking out one and walking four.
Greenfield 10, Mahar 0 — Sophomore Owen Phelps delivered in his first-ever varsity start.
The Greenfield High School hurler went six scoreless innings, holding Mahar Regional School to just one hit en route to a 10-0 shutout in a Hampshire League crossover game Monday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Field.
Phelps, who has seen some innings out of the bullpen so far this spring, struck out six and didn’t walk a batter to earn the victory.
Greenfield (7-1) led just 1-0 until the bottom of the fourth inning. The Green Wave offense exploded in the frame, pushing nine runs across on eight hits. Tyler Boissonneault, who had three hits on the day, drove in a run, as did Tyler Townsley, who also had three hits. Tyler Miner and Hunter Campbell also registered RBI in the fourth, as Greenfield opened things up to take a commanding 10-0 advantage.
Sophomore Will Peridina had the lone hit of the game for Mahar (4-5), a double.
Turners 14, FC Tech 1 — The offense finally came around for host Turners Falls High School, which qualified for the WMass Division IV Tournament thanks to the 70-percent rule with a 14-1 victory over Powertown foe Franklin County Technical School in an independent baseball game under the lights at the Bourdeau Fields Complex on Monday night.
Turners (6-3) pounded out 15 hits in the win, with Tionne Brown leading the charge with four hits out of the lead-off spot. Nick Croteau and Jon Fritz had two hits apiece in the win, while Tyler Lavin drove in two runs.
Mike Babcock picked up the win in relief of Lavin with two innings of scoreless action. Kyle Bergmann finished things up in the seventh.
Sam Babala led Tech (4-4) with three of his team’s six hits.
