SOUTH DEERFIELD — Police are investigating an apparent break-in at Neighbors Convenience Store on Route 116 that happened sometime overnight Monday into Tuesday.
“An ATM machine was broken into — cash from there, a register, and a safe was taken,” Deerfield Police Sgt. Harry Ruddock said Tuesday, noting that it’s not department policy to give a monetary amount of what was taken.
Police were called around 6:30 a.m. by an employee opening for the day.
At the Route 116 station around 10 a.m., five police cars idled nearby, as state and local police appeared to be searching for something around the building.
Ruddock said the break-in happened when the gas station was closed, between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. No one was in the store when it happened. He said the store has surveillance cameras.
“Right now we’re compiling information. We do have some evidence we can work off of — hopefully that will produce some leads,” Ruddock said, adding, “we’re working with the state police crime scene services.”
