LEYDEN — Due to a state of emergency being declared for Leyden, several programs hosted by the Council on Aging on Tuesday and Wednesday have been canceled.

Exercise class with Linda Allis and an acrylic painting class with David Sund, to be held at Town Hall Tuesday, have been postponed.

Additionally, “Songbirds of the Northeast” with naturalist Joel Root, to be held at Town Hall Wednesday, has also been postponed and the St. Patrick’s Day lunch has been canceled.

According to Cecelia Tusinski, who oversees programming for the Council on Aging, Sund’s art class will take place Tuesday, March 21, from 1 to 3 p.m. Exercise classes will also resume Tuesday at noon. Root’s presentation will be rescheduled to a later date.

According to the Leyden town website, the state of emergency was issued at 6:50 a.m. Tuesday and will remain in effect until further notice. Residents are asked to stay off the roads if at all possible.
