The Amherst College Department of Music presents the annual collaboration between the Amherst College Choral Society and Amherst Symphony Orchestra on Saturday, March 4, at 8 p.m.
The concert will take place in the Buckley Recital Hall, Arms Music Center at Amherst College.
The program will feature “Five Mystical Songs” by English composer Ralph Vaughan Williams. Set to religious texts on universal topics of love and redemption, the songs serve as powerful meditations on our personal existence. Amherst native David Lemly McFerrin, who appears regularly at Boston Lyric Opera, is the guest soloist.
The ASO is joined by the Choral Society to present “The Planets” by Gustav Holst. “The Planets” serves as depictions of different aspects of the human character, such as the “peaceful” Venus, the “jolly” Jupiter or the “mystical” Neptune.
Tickets may be purchased at the door only. Prices are $10; $5 for seniors, children 12 and under and students with an ID. Event is free for Amherst and Five College students with an ID.
