WHATELY – A portion of Christian Lane immediately off of Routes 5 and 10 was closed this morning following a one-car crash into a utility pole.

The call came in around 9:45 a.m., and Whately police and firefighters responded. According to Whately Fire Deputy Chief Keith Bardwell, a male driver was uninjured.

However, the accident caused significant damage to the car, a black Toyota Corolla, and the airbags deployed, Bardwell said. The utility pole was also leaning, with Eversource arriving on scene to repair it at around 10:30 a.m.

Bardwell said late morning that he suspected the road will be closed for between three to four hours while the pole is repaired.

Bardwell said the cause of the accident is still under investigation, though he said there was “nothing out of the ordinary.”

“There’s certainly nothing weather-wise that contributed,” he added.
