Although the Turners Falls High School swimming and diving team did not pick up any WMass hardware, nearly every swimmer registered a personal-best time in their event during the WMass Swimming and Diving Championships Saturday at Springfield College.
“We didn’t have anyone qualify for States but were really happy to see everyone come here and swim their best times,” Turners Falls coach Kelly Liimatainen said.
Olivia Whittier had the best finish of any of the Indians’ swimmers with her 12th-place finish out of 24 swimmers in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:15.45. She missed qualifying for the state meet by just two seconds, but managed to swim her best time ever in the event.
Jade Tyler competed in a pair of events and swam personal-best times in each. Tyler finished 17th out of 25 swimmers in the 200 freestyle in 2:11.48, and finished 19th out of 27 swimmers in the 500 free in 5:56.99.
The girls’ 200 medley relay of Tyler, Whittier, Melissa Hersey and Allison Wheeler finished 17th in 2:15.49.
On the boys’ side, Cam Bradley swam to a pair of personal-best times in his two individual events. Bradley placed 21st out of 29 swimmers in the 100 butterfly in 1:02.16, and then finished 25th out of 31 swimmers in the 100 back in 1:08.29.
Nick Taylor matched his personal-best time in the 100 butterfly with his 29th-place time of 1:06.
The boys’ 200 free relay of Bradley, Taylor, Chase Blair and Ed Reipold came in 18th out of 21 in 2:13.82.
