SPRINGFIELD — A Springfield man is facing charges for allegedly trying to run another vehicle carrying a 6-year-old child off the road and then giving chase to the other motorist. Shawn Pafumi pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges including assault with a dangerous weapon and reckless endangerment.
Prosecutors say the 25-year-old Pafumi ran a red light and almost struck the other car. He then allegedly swore and made an obscene gesture, tried to run the other vehicle off the road, and followed the driver into a parking lot where he threw a bottle at it and struck it with a stick.

Federal prosecutors say about 400 customers were left in the lurch after paying Tom Harper Cruises nearly $3 million. Bret Gordon, a Waltham man who was the business’ majority owner, took about $2.25 million of that.
NEEDHAM — Police in Massachusetts say a father was pinned between two cars and killed while trying to help his son who was stuck on ice.
Needham police say 63-year-old Joseph Flynn was helping his son, whose car was stuck in ice, around 7 a.m. Wednesday. A car driven by a 40-year-old Needham man slid on ice and was apparently unable to stop before hitting Flynn and pinning him between both vehicles.
