The Newt Guilbault Community League will hold baseball registrations on three consecutive Sundays this month from 10 a.m. until noon at the Montague Police Department.

The registrations begin Sunday and will also take place on Feb. 19 and 26 as well. Cost is $75 per player with a reduced rate for multiple children. All new players must bring a copy of their birth certificate. New this season, the league will be sizing players for their uniforms at registrations, so parents should bring any players with them. There will also be gently used equipment at sign-ups if any child is in need of any equipment.

Mount Institute Ski League

Shannon Duffy and Natalia Dorogi came in fourth and fifth during the girls’ giant slalom race to help Northfield Mount Hermon School to a first-place finish during Wednesday’s Mt. Institute Ski League race.

Duffy finished her two runs in a combined time of 98.34, while Dorogi was fifth in 99.66. Heidi Leeds came in eighth for NMH at 102.39, and Maired Collins was ninth at 102.88.

Ashley LaCross of Mohawk Trail Regional High School finished third overall in 98.15 to help the Warriors to a second-place finish with 213 points. Taylor Loomis came in 10th at 104.43.

Valerie Hetherington came in second overall in 96.06 to help Deerfield Academy to a third-place finish with 202 points. Carolyn Melvin was sixth overall at 100.99.

• On the boys’ side, Deerfield Academy took four of the top five spots to cruise to a first-place finish with 270 points. Alexander Garrett was first with a combined run of 89.38 seconds, while Griffin Sarachek was third at 93.11. JP Patton was fourth at 93.62, and Sevrin Sarachek was fifth at 94.21.

The NMH A team finished second with 229 points. Eli DiBari was seventh overall in 95.81 to lead the Hoggers, and Isaac Foster was 10th in 96.16. Eaglebrook School came in third with 215 points and was led by Daniel Cho with a time of 94.41, and Mohawk was fifth as a team with 141 points and was led by Dan White, who finished ninth in 96.07. The NMH B team was sixth with 129 points.

Hockey

The Deerfield Academy hockey teams were both unable to score a goal on Wednesday and were shutout.

The DA boys’ suffered a 3-0 loss to Loomis Chaffee School, while the girls’ team fell to Westminster School, 4-0.

Basketball

Deerfield defeated Suffield Academy, 67-45, in a girls’ prep basketball game Wednesday in Deerfield.

Youth hockey

Snipers forge draw

Dylan Mahar scored the only goal of the game Sunday and Josh Bordeaux made 23 saves to help Franklin County Hockey Association J & J Hockey Snipers to a 1-1 draw against Amherst in a Greater Springfield League Peewee Division game at Collins-Moylan Arena in Greenfield.

Mahar, Gabe Voudren, Jaxon Lavallee, Chris Phelps and Shea Savage played well defensively.

• On Saturday, Jamison Baleno and Voudren scored but J & J Hockey suffered a 5-2 loss to Keene in Keene, N.H.

Ethyn Clayton had the lone assist in the loss. Will Cowie played well in net, turning aside 34 shots.
