Compromise and bipartisanship are two extremely endangered species in our political environment. Name-calling, posturing and directionless debates have replaced discussion and trust in our politic scenes. We shout over each other. We constantly proclaim: I’m smart and you’re stupid. We mock each other’s political belief systems and perception of academic intelligence.
Is there any hope in sight? Well, just maybe. There is a bipartisan political action group. It is not a political party. It is composed of Democrats, Centrists and Republicans.
Their goals are working together to: create more jobs; secure Medicare and Social Security funding; reduce deficit spending; and obtain energy independence. And just as importantly, they want people to talk and listen to each other to move beyond our love affair with putting people in labeled boxes and making them an anonymous enemy.
The group is called “No Labels” and you can easily find them on Facebook and Twitter. The organization was founded by former Sen. Joe Lieberman of Connecticut and former Gov. Jon Huntsman of Utah.
Please consider joining No Labels.
