A man with two DUI convictions was again intoxicated behind the wheel when he crashed into a sedan carrying a family in Victorville, Calif., killing a husband and his wife’s unborn child, officials and relatives said.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department says Alexander Delapaz-Perez, 56, was under the influence Saturday about 1:45 a.m. when he ran a stop sign on Amethyst Road at Mojave Drive and broadsided a Honda Accord. In the Accord were driver Angel Barranco, 35; his wife, Barbara Velasco, 23, who was seven months pregnant; and her mother, Monica Alarcon, 42, all from Adelanto, authorities said.
Perez suffered minor injuries in the crash, and Angel Barranco died. Family members told KTLA that Velasco lost her baby. She and Alarcon suffered “major injuries” but survived, authorities said.
Perez was booked on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter and causing great bodily injury while intoxicated once he was released from the hospital.

CHICAGO — Northwestern University says it is investigating reports that at least three students were sexually assaulted and may have been drugged at fraternity houses in recent weeks, the university stated in a security alert.
In one incident, as many as four female students may have been given a date-rape drug during an event Jan. 21 at the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity house on the Evanston campus, according to a report submitted Feb. 2 to the school. Two of those students believe they were then sexually assaulted, the school said.
On Feb. 3, another report submitted to the school states that a female student was assaulted Feb. 2 after an event at another, unspecified fraternity house. That attack may have involved a date-rape drug as well.
CHICAGO — Two coyotes were removed from a park on Chicago’s North Side after people began feeding them and letting them play with their dogs, according to an email from the alderman of the ward.
Ald. Pat O’Connor, 40th, said the coyotes were becoming aggressive toward people in Winnemac Park, 5100 N. Leavitt St.
People had been feeding the coyotes and letting them play with their dogs off-leash, he said in the email to residents.
O’Connor said his office, as well as the city’s 311 line, recently got calls from residents saying they were “harrassed, followed and menaced” by the coyotes.
Animal Control relocated the coyotes to a wildlife rehabilitation center in suburban Barrington, Ill.
