Greenfield

Seniors citizens sought for GHS history project: The students of Greenfield High School would like your help. The study of history is often too far removed from the experiences of ordinary people in ordinary places. Recognizing that dates, names, elections, wars, laws, policies and trends are only meaningful because they have an impact on real people, GHS students taking United States History II would like to hear how members of our community experienced some of this nation’s more recent history. Beginning in early February, students will begin the GHS Oral History Project, in which they will conduct two rounds of interviews with members of our local community. The first of the two 45-minute interviews will be at the Greenfield Senior Center and is likely to be wide-ranging. The second will possibly be at GHS and will focus on a specific event or topic that impacted you. Students will have researched the topic beforehand. The final product will be a written narrative that describes the intersection of your personal experiences and our nation’s history. Anyone who would like to take part, contact Hope Macary, director, Greenfield Council on Aging (hopem@Greenfield-MA.gov; 413-772-1517) or Lukas Martin, GHS History Teacher (lukmar1@gpsk12.org; 413-772-1350)
