ATHOL — An Athol woman faces a number of charges after allegedly assaulting a police officer and a paramedic while drunk on Jan. 26.

Ann J. Cote, 67, of 6 Morton Meadows, pleaded innocent in Orange District Court on Friday to assault and battery, assault and battery on a police officer, assault and battery on ambulance personnel, disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace, and threatening to commit murder.

According to Athol Police Officer Corey Chauvette, he responded to Morton Meadows at 6:04 p.m. on a report of a woman who had fallen in the parking lot and needed help getting up. Chauvette saw a woman, later identified by the Athol Fire Department as Cote, lying against a car, in puddle of mud. Also, there was blood on her jacket’s left sleeve and on the driver’s door. Chauvette reported he asked Cote if she was all right and Cote responded with heavily-slurred swear words. Chauvette detected a heavy odor of alcohol and Cote said she was trying to drive home.

Athol Fire Capt. Andy Soltsiyk and Paramedic Travis Parisi arrived and began treating Cote, who became disruptive and tried to hit them. Chauvette rode in the ambulance to Athol Hospital with Cote, who continued being combative and at one point allegedly threatened to kill the officer. Cote reportedly punched Parisi and then Chauvette when told she was under arrest.

Upon arrival at the hospital, Cote punched a doctor and knocked his eyeglasses across the room and causing a small abrasion to his face. Cote told Chauvette she was drunk and she continued to be combative toward emergency room staff.

A pre-trial conference for Cote is set for March 10.
