Councilman Isaac Mass has offered nothing to back up his extravagant claims in his “My Turn” from Jan. 14 about the new businesses and other benefits that will supposedly come rushing to Greenfield upon removal of the “corridor overlay district” from the French King Highway.

I’ve also seen nothing to suggest, much less convince me, that this proposal wouldn’t actually worsen the traffic congestion, residential disruption, sprawl, and pollution that Councilman Mass says he’s trying to solve, or that it wouldn’t have a tremendously negative impact on existing businesses along Federal Street and elsewhere in town. The creators of our town Master Plan were not clowns, and Greenfield is not a balloon animal that needs a third arm and shrunken head. I sincerely hope our Council will reject this harmful amendment.
