Brain-based yoga therapy for chronic pain: On Wednesday from noon to 1 p.m., the YMCA will be offering a free presentation on yoga for recovery from chronic pain. People will learn the role the body-mind plays in chronic pain, to change their relationship to pain.

Brain-Based Yoga Therapy is a neuro-biological retraining system that combines ancient yogic principles and cutting edge pain theory. Participants will learn how using gently yoga flow, powerful mental imagery and incremental exposure may block habitual brain/pain pathways and over time, rewire the retrain the brain to bring about lasting change and freedom from pain.

Girls Day Out: On Sunday, Jan. 29, from noon to 3 p.m., the YMCA is hosting the 11th annual Girls Day Out event. During this three-hour period, 36 vendors will be in the Y’s basketball court with products and services for women. In addition, there will be cooking demonstrations by restaurants, chefs and Franklin County Technical School.

The Y will also offer sample Group Exercise classes and a trial scuba class. The event is free and open to the public.

All girls ages 10 to 14 must be with a parent or grandparent to participate. The Y’s Game Room and Child Watch will be open for 3- to 10-year-olds to play. Call 773-3646 for more info.

Two new weight loss programs starting Jan. 31: People usually have two weight loss obstacles — not enough “proper” exercise and nutrition issues. The Y has created two programs to help people lose weight in 2017: a weight loss exercise program and/or nutrition classes. People can enroll in one or both of these nine week programs which start Jan. 31.

Trivia night to benefit Y Veteran’s Programs: On Saturday, Feb. 25 the YMCA is hosting a fun trivia night to raise financial aid dollars to support its Veteran’s programs. The event will be at the Moose Lodge in Greenfield, doors open at 6:15 p.m. and the first round starts at 7 p.m. sharp. People should put together teams of eight players.

The entry fee is $10 per person.

The winning team will receive $100. Teams should bring their own snacks. There will also be Y raffle prizes. Last year this event sold out so register early at the YMCA Welcome Center. For more info or to sponsor a table call Jayne at 773-3646, ext 448.

Eight birthday party options: The Y has eight birthday party options offered at 14 different times each week for children ages 1-14. The party options are swimming, scuba, game room, inflatable obstacle course, gaga ball, climbing wall, gymnastics center and gym games. Parent/Child classes: Parent/child gym or swim classes help young children develop important gross motor skills early in their lives which can carry over into other sports in later years as well as introduce them to the water.
