Aaron Hendry placed second in the 600-meter run, in 1 minute, 32.16 seconds, and third in the 55-meter hurdles (8.91 seconds) to help Mahar Regional School to a pair of wins Friday during Meet 5 of the PVIAC Indoor Track & Field season at Smith College in Northampton.
The Senators beat Greenfield High School (70-25) and Pope Francis High School (74-21).
Ash Shaw took fifth in the 300 (39.34), sixth in the mile (5:10.23) and 10th in the high jump (5-1). Sebastian Shaw was third in the 2-mile (11:22.20), sixth in the 1,000 (3:06.76) and ninth in the high jump (5-1). Andrew Hill had a pair of fifth-place finishes, in the 1,000 (3:03.72) and mile (5:09.80). Hunter Apteker had two top-10 finishes, sixth in the 55 hurldes (9.18) and seventh in the long jump (18-3½).
Mahar had three others finishers in the top 10 in the 2-mile. Thor Mead was fifth (11:56.22), Liam O’Donnell was sixth (12:12.41) and Seth Mitchell was 10th (12:43.39). Mitchell was also seventh in the high jump (5-3). The Senators had two athletes place among the top 10 as well, in the shot put, where John Nye finished fourth (38-5¾) and Tyreece Younger placed 10th (32-7). Hugo Frost was seventh in the 55 hurdles (9.48), Uziel Valentin was 10th in the 55 meter (7.17).
Silvian Popusoi had three top-10 finishes for a Greenfield High School team that earned a split with a 47-40 win over Ludlow High School.
Popusoi was third in the high jump (5-7), fifth in the long jump (18-4¾) and fifth in the 55 hurdles (9.18). Sam Knight placed eighth in the 1,000 (3:07.12) and ninth in the mile (5:24.11), while Dylan Badillo was fourth in the 2-mile in 11:22.40. Mike Aras was fifth in the high jump (5-3). Tyssen LaBombard was eighth in the mile (5:21.92).
Emma Currier was third in the 1,000 (3:32.05) and fourth in the mile (5:50.77) to help Mahar to a split with a 64-30 win over Greenfield and a 62-32 loss to Pope Francis.
Kamryn Reilly also had a big day with three top-10 finishes: sixth in the long jump (14-6¾), seventh in the 55 dash (8.04), and ninth in the high jump (4-5).
Anna Wetherbee was seventh in the 600 (1:54.18) and ninth in the long jump (14-1½). Marie Nottleson took third in the 55 hurdles (10.34), and Aileen Fitzgerald was ninth in the 2-mile (13:54.99).
Amy O’Sullivan paced a Greenfield team that went 0-2 and also lost to Ludlow (66-15). O’Sullivan was third in the mile (5:50.08) and fourth in the 2-mile (12:38.83).
Jamie Day was eighth in the 2-mile (13:17). Courtney Danielsen was ninth in the 1,000 (3:48.19).
In the boys’ afternoon session, Mason Barrieau won the 600 (1:26.98) and had two other top-four finishes to help Athol High School to a split on the day with a 50-43 win over Pioneer Valley Regional School and a 59-35 loss to Southwick-Tolland Regional High School.
Barrieau also finished third in the in the 55 meters (8.82) and fourth in the long jump (19-3). Kris Selanis won the shot put at 47-3 for the Red Raiders. Zack Bergquist was ninth in the mile (5:11.40).
Scott McDonough was third in the long jump (19-3½) to pace Pioneer, which finished 0-3 on the day with losses to South Hadley High School (64-31) and West Springfield High School (81-14). Two Panthers performed well in the shot put as Andrew Pratt took fifth (36-10¼), and Adrian Wilson was eighth (35-3¾).
On the girls’ side of the afternoon session, Grace Dufour came in eighth in the mile (6:23.73) and helped Athol to a split with the Red Raiders besting Pioneer (55-31) but falling to Southwick (69-26).
Shelby Mailloux was 10th in the 1,000 (3:36.92) for the Raiders.
Pioneer finished 0-3 on the day with losses to Athol, South Hadley (81-14) and West Springfield (85-10).
