Years ago, I wrote a letter just like this one, asking that the staffers who write the headlines for sports reports refrain from using violent words such as in a previous issue “Turners Falls girls gun down Mohawk.”
We see far too much of that language in the morning news. Reports from all over the world, including our own corner of society — we don’t need to see it on the sports pages, too.
There are many ways to tell of a victory. Please use those and leave the violent headlines to the news reporters.
