DEERFIELD — During a traffic stop early Friday morning, police discovered Class C drugs and drug paraphernalia, leading to the arrest of a Vermont man.

According to a report by Deerfield Police Officer Dane Jobst, he was patrolling on Greenfield Road just after midnight when he noticed the vehicle in front of him make several traffic violations.

Jobst stopped the vehicle near Yankee Candle, and found the driver, Timothy Ferland, 26, had a suspended license. The passengers, Jason Robinson, 31, and Cassaundra White, 28, produced an expired temporary license and a suspended license, respectively. All three were from Newport Center, Vt.

According to Jobst’s report, with none of the occupants authorized to drive, he requested a tow and offered to transport the three to Circle K convenience station. Before allowing them in the cruiser, Jobst pat frisked each and found Robinson to have a container of Klonopin, a sedative used to treat seizures, panic disorder and anxiety. Robinson did not have a prescription.

Additionally, Jobst discovered Robinson had a smoking pipe, two pieces of tin foil with burn marks and rolled $1 bills that Jobst recognized as being used to smoke or snort narcotics, along with 50 empty heroin packets.

Jobst also found a tin container with two straws, rubber bands, a razor blade, a hair clip and a clear vial with a white powder that appeared to be cocaine. White admitted the container was hers.

Jobst arrested Robinson, and his bail was set at $100, plus a $40 fee. He posted bail and was arraigned in Greenfield District Court Friday morning for possessing a Class C drug. His charges were decriminalized and he was ordered to pay a $50 fine.

According to the report, Ferland received a citation for driving with a suspended license and White will be issued a summons for drug possession.
