Frontier Regional School earned its eighth dual-meet win of the season, rolling to a 66-12 victory over Pioneer Valley Regional School in a Tri-County League wrestling match Wednesday night at Goodnow Gymnasium in South Deerfield.
Frontier (8-4 overall, 2-0 TCL) picked up six contested wins, all by pin. Miguel Olvera had the fastest of those six pins at 195 pounds, downing Lilith Kilburn in 24 seconds. Victor McNutt (138) recorded his pin nearly as fast, as he finished off Cameron Dresser in 27 seconds.
Those who also recorded first-period pins were Josiah Murry (145) over Tristan Dresser in 1:26, and David Grover Jr. (152) over Isabella Daye in 1:31.
Other wins via fall for the Red Hawks included Connor Pettis (126) over Bryson Spinner in 3:32, and Bailey Murray (120) over Noah Fuess in 5:53.
The Panthers recorded both of their contested wins via pin — Cody Gibbons (113) stopped Tanner Finch in 1:53, and Alex Tyson (160) upended Andrew Logan in 1:56.
FC Tech 48, Southwick 34 — Franklin County Technical School recorded six pins and went on to a 48-34 victory over Southwick-Tolland Regional High School in a Suburban League wrestling match Wednesday night in Southwick.
Two of the Eagles’ wins came in quick fashion. Mike Mattson (285) pinned Brayden Tingley and Jaden Sadlowski (120) pinned Ben Cleeland, both in just 10 seconds.
Other wins by fall in the opening period were Colin Pettis (126) over Jacob Walker in 51 seconds, and Spencer Telega (160) over Josh Sylvia in 52 seconds.
Kyle Brunelle (113) added a pin against Dan Rotar in 2:39, and Brody Wood (170) Xavier Gonzalez in 4:50.
Franklin Tech (11-1, 2-0) is at the Northbridge Tournament Saturday at 10 a.m.
Mahar 41, Pathfinder 36 — Mahar Regional School remained unbeaten in the TCL with a 41-36 win over Pathfinder Vocational High School in wrestling action Wednesday night in Three Rivers.
Peter Tattan (160) registered the quickest pin for the Senators (5-1, 3-0), as he downed the Pioneers’ Mike Halpern in 27 seconds.
Henry Ndayisaba (126) also won by fall inside of minute, beating Alexandria Skrocki in 51 seconds, while Chad Marcoux (182) had the other first-period pin over Anthony Robitaille in 1:11.
Other wins via pin for Mahar were Todd Chiasson (138) over Nathan Kendall in 3:05, Benjamin Gilmore (170) over Mike Tirrell in 3:31, and Matt Herk (220) over Matt Monast in 4:25.
Miller Richardson (145) won by technical fall, 16-0, over Gabe Valle in 3:38.
Athol 54, Monty Tech 30 — Athol High School won seven of the nine contested matches and went on to defeat Montachusett Regional Vocational Technical School, 54-30, in an independent wrestling meet Wednesday in Fitchburg.
Caleb Cox (113), Merrick Decker (120), Ryan White (138), Derek Erali (152), Mike Gray (160), Chris Waslaske (170) and Trever Mousseau (182) all won their matches via fall for the Red Raiders.
Athol heads to the Quabbin Duals on Saturday morning at 10 a.m.
Pioneer 53, McCann 30 — Brianna Jobst and Jess Scoville each recorded a double-double to lead Pioneer over McCann Technical School, 53-30, in an independent girls’ basketball game Wednesday night in North Adams.
Jobst had one of the best all around games of her career with 13 points, 11 rebuonds, 3 steals and 3 assists. Scoville aided the win with 14 points, 13 boards and a pair of steals.
Caroline Merkle totaled 5 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists, and Alexus Vergobbe regsistered 7 blocked shots for the Panthers, who led 30-13 at halftime.
Aimee Dowling led the Hornets with 14 points.
Turners girls, boys swept
Ludlow High School posted a double victory over Turners Falls High School in Constitution Division swimming action Wednesday in Ludlow.
The Indians lost the girls’ meet, 104-46, and dropped an 85-50 decision in the boys’ race.
Jade Tyler was a double winner for the Turners girls, as she claimed blue ribbons in the 100 butterfly in 1 minute, 9.19 seconds, and 100 backstroke in 1:12.40.
Olivia Whittier captured the 100 breaststroke in 1:18.33 and placed second in the 50 freestyle in 29.37 seconds.
Tyler, Whittier, Melissa Hersey and Allison Wheeler finished second in the 200 medley relay (2:18.35) and 400 free relay (4:40.46).
Nick Taylor led the Turners boys by winning the 500 free in 6:52.50, and took second in the 100 butterfly in 1:09.25. Cameron Bradley added seconds in the 200 free (2:13.38) and 100 free (58.25), and the 400 free relay team of Taylor, Ed Reipold, Chase Blair and Cam Bradley was second in 4:23.42.
Turners hosts Springfield School of Science & Technology Tuesday at 4 p.m.
