SOUTH DEERFIELD — Franklin County’s Festival of the Trees was a success, raising $7,000 to support Warm the Children.

“We were hoping to get right in that range, and we hit our target,” Kiwanian Kevin LaMagdelaine said about how much money was raised. “And next year we have some ideas to make it even bigger.”

The festival, which lasted three weekends starting Dec. 3, was put on through a collaboration between local Rotary and Kiwanis clubs, hosted at the Yankee Candle store in South Deerfield.

Money was raised through admission — $10 for adults, $5 for children. Twenty raffle tickets were included in admission, with which event-goers could try to win a tree.

“Several hundred people attended,” LaMagdelaine said, noting that tree winners were drawn last Sunday night, which was also the busiest day of the festival.

“It was a great partnership between the Kiwanis Club of Greenfield and the Rotary Club of Franklin County. We plan to do more future events as partners,” he added. “It’s a perfect location. Now people know what it is.”

All the money raised will go to Warm the Children — a local charity benefiting children — which is run by The Recorder and its partners, Wilson’s Department Store and Community Action, and funded through community donations.
