GREENFIELD — Christmas came early for loyal customers of the former Country Jewelers.
Earlier in the season, the recently closed Main Street retail store emerged downtown as a pop-up shop across the street from the storefront where Larry and Donna Pfeffer sold their wares.
After more than 40 years as a fixture in the local jewelry business, the Pfeffers retired earlier this year and closed their store on the corner of Main and Chapman streets.
“This space became available in November, and we had the time and the jewelry. It worked out well,” Larry Pfeffer explained Friday between filling customer orders.
Pfeffer said they have been busy throughout the holiday season, and plan to stay open through today.
“It’s been busy,” he continued, noting that this isn’t the first time the business has been in the pop-up location.
The business has come full-circle. About 10 years after the couple stepped into the jewelry business in the 1970s, they sold jewelry out of the same small storefront for about 10 years, before moving across the street.
“We just had my work bench and whatever we could make,” Pfeffer recalled, adding that after today they will return to a peaceful retirement. But they’re not ruling out the possibility of temporarily setting up shop again if an enticing opportunity arises.
“Who knows, maybe we’ll pop up again, maybe Valentine’s Day,” he said.
