Troy Emond scored 22 second-half points and finished with a game-high 28 to lead Pioneer Middle School to a 58-52 win over Frontier Middle School in a boys’ basketball game Thursday afternoon at Goodnow Gymnasium in South Deerfield.
Ryan Porter finished with 7 points in the win, and Josh Glazier added 6 points.
Owen Morse notched 21 points for Frontier, including 17 in the second half. Peter Carey added 17 points.
WMass FC goalie sought
The Western Mass. FC Boys’ Under-13 soccer team is looking for a goalkeeper for the spring season.
The team plays its home games at Stoneleigh-Burnham School in Greenfield.

Umpires clinic
The Hampshire-Franklin Baseball Umpires Association will conduct an instructional course for new umpires in January, February and March.
Members umpire scholastic baseball games in Franklin and Hampshire counties during April and May, as well as many summer-league games. The course consists of eight classes, which run on Sunday evenings from 6-8 p.m. The first class begins on Jan. 15 and runs through March 12. There is no class on Super Bowl Sunday.
Cost of the course is $50 and umpires must be at least 18-years-old and submit to a national background check.

Worcester State clinics
Worcester State University is holding a number of upcoming baseball clinics:
• The inaugural Holiday Fun Baseball Clinic will take place Dec. 27 through 29 in the multi-purpose gymnasium at the school.
The clinic is open to players ages 8-18 and runs from 9 a.m. until noon each day. Players can sign up for one or all three days. Cost is $30 per day or $75 for all three.
• The 10th annual Friday Night Baseball School will run on six Friday nights beginning Jan. 27. The clinic is open to players in grades 1-12 and takes place in the multi-purpose gym. Hitting runs from 6 to7 p.m., and pitching runs from 7-8 p.m. Cost is $100 per session or $165 for both.
• The 22nd annual Hitting Clinic will run from Feb. 20-22 in the multi-purpose gym.
The clinic is open to players ages 8 through 18 and runs from 9 a.m. until noon each day. Cost is $40 per day or $100 for all three. It is the longest continuous running clinic in New England.
Dean College camp
Dean College in Franklin is hosting a four-week baseball camp starting Jan. 22.
The program is open to players in grades 1-12 and features sessions in advanced hitting, pitching, catching, fielding and baserunning. Space is limited to seven players per coach.

The Franklin County Hockey Association’s “Learn to Skate” program meets Saturday mornings at 9 a.m. at Collins-Moylan Arena in Greenfield.
