I very much appreciated Bill Newman’s “My Turn” on Dec. 13. He spoke my mind.
No one group of Americans owns the rights to the flag. The Hampshire students own it and should claim it, and so do the veterans who protested there. The police and security people at Standing Rock own the flag as well as the Standing Rock Lakota and their friends.
Liberals and lefties own it as well as Trump supporters and the political right. Honoring the flag should mean, as was so well put by the letter from Veterans for Peace, acting as mature individuals should and not hiding from past errors but continually commit to doing better.
