WHATELY — Whately Congregational Church’s annual Living Nativity will be held this Sunday, Dec. 18, at 3 p.m., in the church’s parking area on Chestnut Plain Road.
A recent article, published in the local section of Thursday’s newspaper, did not have the correct date.
“It’s a wonderful reenactment of the Nativity, done by both adults and children,” the church’s pastor, Rev. Cynthia Crosson-Harrington was quoted in that article, adding, “it’s outside in our historic carriage shed. … People are encouraged to dress warmly.”
According to Crosson-Harrington, the annual Christmas nativity was started back in the mid-1990s, and will feature animals such as “chickens, oxen, alpaca, and goats.”
The nativity will be acted out by adults — portraying Wise Men, shepherd, Mary, Joseph and angels — as narrated by Crosson-Harrington. During the event, attendees will have the chance to join in and sing a few Christmas carols.
“There’s so much hype around Christmas,” Crosson-Harrington noted. “This really gives one an opportunity to think about, the cliche, reason for the season. If one really thinks about that first night, and the impact it’s had on the world, it can be a really powerful experience.”
