GREENFIELD — Two free informational legal defense clinics are planned next week for Franklin County and the North Quabbin region to assist foreclosed homeowners with preserving their rights to regain their homes.
The first one, co-hosted by State Rep. Paul Mark, is scheduled for 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Room 218 of the Greenfield Community College Downtown Center at 270 Main St. on Monday. The second one will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Athol Public Library at 568 Main St. in Athol on Tuesday. The Athol Anti-Foreclosure Defense Clinic program is not being sponsored by the Athol Public Library.
Both clinics are open to the public.
Homeowners foreclosed in 2014, or earlier, face a Dec. 30 deadline for filing paperwork to preserve their rights to regain their homes. The Massachusetts Alliance Against Predatory Lending and Bonnie MacCracken, the Housing Committee chairwoman of the New England Area Conference of the NAACP, are hosting these clinics. The Mass. alliance is a coalition of more than 70 housing counseling agencies, legal services groups, social service agencies, and community-based social action groups that have joined together to address the foreclosure crisis in the state.
