In Dec. 1’s Today in History section of The Recorder, there was a quote from President Lincoln saying “Fellow citizens, we can not escape history. We of this Congress and this administration will be remembered in spite of ourselves.”
Things have their names because those who made the decision thought it was to commemorate someone or something important. For instance, Mahar Regional High School was named after a long-time state senator.
It is asinine to change any names at the whim of a few who feel their names are abused. All names have a meaning.
If you want to change a name, then start with any thing named Mohawk as it was this tribe that attacked Deerfield in the 1600s. They were a ruthless tribe and were constantly a threat to all of eastern New York and western Massachusetts.
Please! Leave well enough alone and mind your own business.
