GREENFIELD – Bystanders lifted a sedan off a man crushed after the vehicle fell of a jack in the back of a Davis Street property Thursday afternoon, potentially saving the man’s life.

At the scene around 1 p.m., about 15 minutes after emergency crews received a 911 call, Greenfield Fire Chief Robert Strahan said town firefighters “responded to Davis Street to a report of a male party trapped under his car.”

Strahan couldn’t comment on how badly the man was injured, but did say he’d been helped out from beneath the car, and was “conscious and alert” when firefighters arrived. “As a precaution,” Strahan continued, emergency crews took the man to a helipad, where he was scheduled to be airlifted to Springfield. 

There’s no word of yet as to how or why the vehicle fell. Strahan said the fire department is currently investigating. The town police department and EMS were also called to help out.
