Notre Dame scored once in each period on Saturday night and Cal Petersen made 22 saves to lead 12th-ranked Notre Dame to a 3-0 win over UMass in a Hockey East men’s game Saturday at the Mullins Center in Amherst.
Andrew Oglevie scored on a rebound with 42 seconds left in the first period to open the scoring for the Fighting Irish (8-6-2 overall, 4-3-1 Hockey East) with assists from Dennis Gilbert and Anders Bjork.
Notre Dame made it 2-0 early in the second period when Jake Evans blasted a slap shot from the right faceoff circle that beat UMass goalie Ryan Wischow.
UMass (4-8-2, 2-6-1) had a chance to get on the board later in the second period when Austin Plevy was hauled down, putting UMass on the power play but the Minutemen were unable to solve Petersen and wound up 0-for-3 on the man-advantage for the game.
Evans iced the game late in the third with an empty net goal.
Wischow finished with 33 saves in the loss.
UMass travels to Hartford, Conn., on Friday at 6:30 to take on UConn in a game that will be televised on NESN.
Pioneer 5/6 tops Greenfield
Josh Wood scored 12 points on Saturday to lift Pioneer over Greenfield, 34-33, in a Suburban League grades 5 & 6 boys’ basketball game in Northfield.
Sam Glazier added 10 points in the win, and Brayden Thayer dumped in 6. Jake Brook and Kurt Redeker each played well defensively in the win.
Maverick Ward led Greenfield with 9 points, and Nate Blanchard added 8.
Mites cruise
Luca Siano scored five times on Saturday and Shawn Bauman had three goals and four assists to lead the Franklin County Hockey League to a 14-5 win over Holy Name Gold in a Greater Springfield League Mite Division game.
Hayden Ardrey finished with two goals and an assist, and Chase Zraunig had a pair of goals. Carter Schloat and Stefan Flaska each notched a goal, and Jack Laurie and Cordelia Rhodes each had an assist. Jahleel Perry made 14 saves.
Dillon Bantams unbeaten
Jordyn LaVallee stopped all 10 shots in goal to lead FCHA Dillon Chevrolet Warriors to a 8-0 win over Ludlow in a GSL Bantam Division hockey game Sunday at Collins-Moylan Arena in Greenfield.
Hunter Haughey had three goals and one assist in the win, while Kyle Barnes had two goals and one assist. Steven Parkinson had a goal and two assists, and Derek Lenois and Croteau each had a goal. Jake Bryant, Adam Savoy, Tony Wozny and Croteau each added an assist.
• On Saturday, Lenois scored a power play goal with 2.5 seconds left to help Dillon’s to a 6-6 draw with Holy Name Green at Smead Arena in Springfield.
Haughey had a pair of goals for FCHA, while Barnes and Savoy had one goal and one assist apiece. Porter Clancy added a goal, and Parkinson had one assist. LaVallee made 22 saves, and Cooper Barton and Sam Battisti each played well on defense.
Dillon Chevy falls
Shane Prusak scored twice on Sunday but the FCHA Dillon Chevrolet Vipers suffered a 6-5 loss to Keene in a GSL Peewee North game at Collins-Moylan Arena.
Braeden Killeen had a goal and an assist for the Vipers, and Brodie Gagne and Matt Lavoine each had a goal. Eathon Bryant notched a pair of helpers, while MJ Paulin, Trevor Kuchieski, Jayson Smith and Sam Knight each had an assist. Trevor Parkinson stopped 26 shots in the loss.
• On Saturday, Parkinson made 22 saves but Dillon Chevy dropped a 4-1 decision to Amherst.
Lavoine scored on an assist from Smith in the loss.
J & J Hockey wins
Jamison Baleno recorded a hat trick on Sunday and FCHA J & J Hockey defeated Ludlow, 10-1, in a GSL Peewee Division game at Smead Arena.
Ben Carlan had two goals and an assist in the win, and Ethyn Clayton scored twice. Roger Grondin Jr. and Gabe Voudren each had one goal and two assists. Billy Woodall scored once and had an assist, and Chris Phelps, Shea Savage, Will Cowie and Cooper Bourbeau each had one helper. Cowie made 12 saves in net to earn the win, including stopping three breakaways.
• On Saturday, Carlan had two goals and one assist and J & J Hockey edged Brattleboro, 5-4, at Nelson Withington Arena in Brattleboro.
Dylan Mahar had a goal and an assist for J & J Hockey, while Grondin Jr. and Voudren each had a goal. Baleno had one assist. Josh Bordeaux finished with 21 saves to earn the win.
Farrell’s falls
Jake Petrin played well in net and Talon Wissmann had a strong game defensively but FCHA Gilmore & Farrell Green suffered a 7-0 loss to Holy Name Black in a GSL Squirt Division game Sunday at Collins-Moylan Arena in Greenfield.
• On Saturday, Brady Booska, Cade Allenby and Jake Knight each scored once but FCHA suffered a 8-3 loss to Ludlow Black at Smead Arena in Springfield.
Ludlow scored four times in the third period to put the game away. Petrin played well in net, and Loki Rhodes had a strong defensive game.
Bluefish win
The Montague Bluefish defeated the Chicopee Amberjacks, 248-173, in a Pioneer Valley Swim League meet Saturday at Turners Falls High School.
Hazel Reeder, Veda Ruth Harvey-Ahmai and Natalie Rowan each won two events in the girls’ 11-12 division. Harvey-Ahmai won the 50 yard free (34.40) and the 50 breast (45.18), Reeder won the 200 free (2:43.83) and 100 free (1:16.22), and Rowan won the 200 individual medley (3:04.42) and 50 fly (38.09). Olivia Hammond was second in the 50 back (45.73) and third in the 50 breast, Grace Davenport was second in the 100 free (1:41.33), and Ella Sabelawski was third in both the 50 free and the 50 back.
On the boys’ side, Dylan Bliss won the 100 free (1:18.39) and the 50 back (46.17), and Andrew Bostrom won the 200 free (3:08.06) and the 50 breast (54.30). Iggy Passiglia won the 50 fly (42.07) and was third in the 100 free, while Ben Tardif won the 200 IM (3:22.95). Kris Bostrom was second in both the 50 free (36.31) and the 50 breast (55.86), and Jake Mattson was second in the 50 back (47.91) and third in the 50 free.
In girls’ 13-14 action, Jade Tyler won the 200 IM (2:39.37) and the 200 free (2:24.89), while Olivia Whittier won both the 50 free (29.46) and 100 breast (1:21.19). Allison Wheeler won the 100 free (1:12.90) and was second in the 50 free (31.92), and Catherine Bezio won the 200 free (2:46.51) and was second the 100 fly (1:44.78). Paige Loughman came in second in the 100 free (1:18.21) and was third in the 100 back, and Jillian Scott was third in both the 200 IM and 100 breast. In boys’ action, John Kolosewich won the 50 free (32.68) and 100 free (1:15.31), while Ellis Tarry won the 100 back (1:23.80) and was second in the 50 free (33.19).
Josie Sabelawski won the 25 fly (26.31) and the 50 free (46.03) in the girls’ 8 & under division, while Maddie Sabelawski won the 25 free (26.55) and was second in the 25 back (34.84). Alice Fortin won the 25 breast (32.32) and was second in the 25 fly (31.21), and Kaelyn McLean won the 25 back (29.86). Breanna Kempf was second in the 50 free (51.88), and Rosie Rodriguez was second in the 25 free (27.39). Liam Bliss won both the 25 free (23.94) and the 25 back (25.65) in the boys’ 8 & under division.
In 9-10 girls’ action, Ainslee Flynn captured the 100 IM (1:33.44) and the 50 fly (42.85), while Sadie Rowan won both the 100 free (1:22.69) and the 50 back (42.67). Taryn McDonough won the 50 free (44.89) and was second in the 50 breast (50.90), while Ava Fortin won the 50 breast (50.18) and was third in the 100 IM, and Summer Raimondo was second in the 50 back (1:03.56). On the boys’ side, Brady Serrell won the 50 free (46.37) and the 50 back (1:05.23), Ezrah Kurinsky won the 50 breast (1:07.92), and Patrick Voss was third in the 50 free.
In boys’ 15-18 action, Cameron Bradley won both the 200 IM (2:33.94) and the 100 fly (1:07.43), and Morgan Downham won the 50 free (30.26) and the 100 free (1:11.32).
Hockey
Five players tallied single goals for Deerfield Academy on Saturday during a 5-1 win over Groton School in a boys’ prep hockey game in Deerfield.
Seth Reinhard, Michael Holland, Sean McAvoy, Harry Gahagan and Thomas Dale each scored in the win.
• On the girls’ side, Meghan Halloran scored as Deerfield played St. Mark’s School to a 1-1 draw in Southborough.

Kimball Union Academy defeated Deerfield, 75-58, in a boys’ prep basketball game Saturday in Deerfield.

Deerfield cruised to a 104-67 victory over Milton Academy in a girls’ prep swimming & diving meet Saturday in Deerfield.

Deerfield bested Hotchkiss School, 5-2, in a boys’ prep squash match Saturday in Deerfield.
