ORANGE — The Greater Quabbin Food Alliance has invited the public to gather, network, and participate in local food initiatives on Dec. 6.

The gathering will run from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the Orange Innovation Center, and will be followed by an extensive composting workshop.

Food Alliance projects include increasing access to farmland, saving farms, improving availability of local food, reducing food waste, and developing stronger local markets for farmers.

This event is free and open to the public.

The Food Alliance is a network of people from across Franklin and Worcester counties working to increase human and ecological health, food access, and economic vitality, and sustain local farmers and food businesses.

Meeting attendees will hear from local farmers, businesses, and organizations about their work and how to get involved, followed by an opportunity to discuss topics in small groups and work together on projects. Attendees are encouraged to bring information about their organization or upcoming events to share.

Following the Food Alliance gathering, a special composting workshop for event planners will run from 2 to 4 p.m. It will feature Rick Innes, who runs a commercial composting operation in the area.
