NORTHFIELD — Brian Noble, who has served as Northfield’s town administrator since October 2014, has been offered a job as town administrator in Acushnet.

Noble accepted contingent on contract negotiations, which he discussed with the Acushnet Board of Selectmen in executive session earlier this month. Though he has yet to officially sign the contract, Noble said the Acushnet position attracted him as it’s only 35 miles from his home in Norwell.

The Northfield Board of Selectmen will hold a meeting at 8 a.m. today (Wednesday) to decide between two candidates for interim town administrator. Noble will continue in his position until the end of December.

Noble said leaving Northfield will be a difficult transition. He’s come to love the small town that he said is reminiscent of Norwell, where he grew up.

“This is a town very dear to me,” Noble said. “I like the team we have here. I like the people. It’s been a very gratifying two years.”

In the time Noble has been town administrator, the town has been able to renovate Town Hall, purchase new police cruisers and highway vehicles, adopt a stable budget and develop a long range capital plan.

“We have a plan, and really all my successor will have to do is follow the plan,” he said.

Noble was selected from two applicants for the Acushnet position, and was chosen because of his experience as a town administrator. Noble will be replacing Kevin Paicos, who has been acting as interim town administrator.
