Shamaal Schoonmaker scored four touchdowns and rushed for 188 yards on 14 carries as Monument Mountain Regional High School defeated Mahar Regional School 46-34 in an independent football game Friday night at the Woodward Complex.

Schoonmaker was nearly unstoppable for the Spartans scoring on runs of 55, 45, 29 and 3 yards as Monument Mountain racked up 351 total yards rushing as a team in the contest.

Mahar was first to put points on the board, as the Senators opened up the game with an eight-play, 80-yard drive that ended with quarterback Sam Paul connecting with wideout Hugo Frost (three catches, 63 yards) for a 20-yard touchdown giving the Senators an 8-0 lead after the conversion attempt.

The Monument Mountain offense struck back quickly as Schoonmaker scored his first touchdown from 3-yards out and the game was tied at 8-8 after the conversion attempt.

The next Senator drive ended with a fumble on the third play and it only took the Spartans two plays as Cam Dargie rumbled in a score from 50 yards out to put the Spartans up 14-8 after the failed conversion attempt.

The Senators battled back on their next drive as running back Lucas Seney carried the ball five times for 42 yards and set up an eventual 28-yard touchdown pass from Paul to Jake Lacasse, leaving the score at 14-14.

Monument then scored the next 16 points as Schoonmaker scampered in his second score, from 45 yards out, and on the next drive Dargie scored from 10 yards to spot the Spartans a 30-14 lead at halftime.

The Senators tried to make a comeback coming out of the halftime break, forcing a Spartan fumble on their opening possession. After the turnover, Paul fired a 20-yard strike to Miller Richardson to pull Mahar with 10 points at 30-20 after the failed conversion.

Any thought of the Mahar comeback was dashed on Monument Mountain’s next possession as Schoonmaker put the visitiors up 38-20 with his final 55-yard touchdown run.

The Senators added two fourth quarter touchdowns as Paul added TD passes to Frost and Enrique Brito hauled in a 35-yard pass from Paul to round out the scoring for Mahar.

Paul finished the game completing 15-of-41 passes for five touchdowns to go along with two interceptions.
