Senior health fair

The largest senior health fair in Franklin County happens from 9 to 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 26. Vendors who provide programs and services for seniors will be in the YMCA’s gym. The Y staff will conduct fitness assessments for those ages 60 and over and will discuss with each person how to improve in each of the six fitness areas. At 11:45 a.m., a Just Roots soup lunch will be offered, and a guest presenter will be speak on pain management. The Health Fair is co-sponsored by Baystate Franklin Medical Center and the YMCA and is free and open to the public.

Free sports injury screenings at YMCA

Baystate Franklin Medical Center’s Rehabilitation Department is offering free monthly sports injury screenings at the YMCA of Greenfield, 451 Main St. The clinic will be held on the third Tuesday of each month, from 4 to 6 p.m. The next is Nov. 15. Each appointment is 15 minutes long. The screenings are open to the public; you do not have to be a YMCA member to attend.

“If you have some sort of injury that is either ongoing, such as tendonitis or something that has just occurred, and you’re not sure how to treat it or where to seek help, this clinic is for you,” said Jeff King, manager of Baystate Franklin’s rehabilitation services. “We will assess your injury and advise you of the next steps to take to treat the injury.”

Self-hypnosis program

The YMCA is offering a self-hypnosis program to help people navigate holiday stress and stay on track with weight and exercise plans. It happens on Wednesdays (Nov. 2, 9, 16) from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the YMCA on Main Street in Greenfield. Fees are $59 to $69. Call 413-773-3646 for more information.
