Regarding the article “Cruel reality? Diemand Farm only one in Question 3 crosshairs:” Question 3 is remarkably straightforward. It says that any corporation that wants to sell or produce meat and eggs here needs to simply give animals enough space to stand up, turn around and extend their limb

Right now, large agribusiness corporations cram pigs, chickens and calves in cages so small they can hardly move. This causes not only enormous animal suffering but also jeopardizes people’s health. For example, a staggering 79,000 Americans are sickened ever year by eggs tainted with Salmonella, according to the federal Food and Drug Administration.

Research has long proven that caged hens are more likely to transmit Salmonella than cage-free birds. It makes sense: if an animal can never exercise, and is crammed shoulder to shoulder with other birds, she’s very likely going to get sick and pass on bacteria in her eggs. Many top food retailers are already switching to cage-free for these reasons.

McDonald’s has said it won’t raise prices even a penny as it goes cage-free.

We need to make sure the remaining bad actors can no longer violate our values and threaten our health. Vote “Yes” on Question 3.
