GREENFIELD — State Attorney General Maura Healey will be at Greenfield Community College on Wednesday, Oct. 26, to speak about democracy and other issues at noon in Stinchfield Lecture Hall.
A civil rights lawyer who took office in 2015, Healey has tackled such issues as the heroin and prescription drug abuse epidemic, marriage equality, escalating health care costs, and many consumer protection and fraud issues.
She is giving this 16th annual Henry Steele Commager Lecture, less than two weeks from the general election. The late Amherst College Professor Commager was a renowned historian, and the lecture named for him focuses on themes of democracy, civil liberties and civil rights. He was also a strong supporter of community colleges and donated many of his books to GCC. GCC uses funds from the sale of his books to create an endowment that supports the lecture series. Also, his widow, Mary Commager, serves on the committee that selects each year’s speaker.
