Eighth-grader Aly Raymond scored twice in the first half and Athol High School went on to defeat Frontier Regional School, 3-1, in a Pioneer North Division girls’ soccer game Monday night at O’Brien Field in Athol.
Raymond now has three goals in her past three games since Athol coach Tim Cleveland moved her up to forward from the midfield.
“She has been very creative,” Cleveland said of his budding star. “She is very smart for such a young player. She knows how to get to the net, and most importantly, she knows how to finish.”
Raymond scored 12 minutes, 21 seconds into the game on an assist from Julia Carey, then struck again in the 33rd minute on an assist from Amber Mahony.
Frontier cut the deficit in half three minutes into the second half when Olivia Denkiewicz scored on a shot from 45 yards out that she snuck in under the crossbar, but Athol went back up by two goals in the 67th minute when Carey scored on a direct kick.
“We finally played an 80-minute game,” Cleveland said. “We dominated them from the get-go. It was a great possession game for us, and I’m pretty happy to see the young kids play up to their potential.”

Gokey finished it off with her final tally in the 46th minute.
Lilly Seaver earned the shutout in goal by making 2 saves. Green Wave keeper Dina Samake was credited with 14 saves.
“Holding them to only one assist made this our best defensive effort of the season,” said Greenfield head coach Patrick Garland. “Mckenna Wells did a great job marking Gokey for the 80 minutes, but she just put on a great individual performance tonight. Dina continues to impress in goal.”
