Amherst eating disorders program director named

Walden Behavioral Care, LLC, New England’s leading provider of treatment for eating disorders, has named Julie Payne Britton of Greenfield to the position of program director for its Amherst clinic at 100 University Drive.

Britton will oversee the clinic’s programming and treatment services, which include partial hospitalization (PHP) and intensive outpatient (IOP) programs for adults and adolescents throughout western Massachusetts and beyond. She will also supervise the facility’s staff of clinicians, mental health counselors, dieticians, nurse practitioners and others.

Additionally, Britton will collaborate with health care providers and community partners throughout the region, providing the resources, evidence-based knowledge and consultation to ensure the most accessible and personalized treatment for those in need.

She is also available to facilitate psycho- education training for service providers on the intersection of eating disorders with substance abuse, mental health conditions and adolescent developmental issues.

Before joining Walden, Britton supervised the partial hospitalization program at Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield and served as a psychotherapist for Servicenet, Inc. in Greenfield and the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (MSPCC) in Greenfield.

Blood drive on Thursday

The Baystate Health Blood Donor Mobile will host a blood drive on Thursday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Baystate Franklin Medical Center’s Emergency Department parking lot, off Sanderson Street. All blood types are needed. Eligible blood donors will receive their choice of gift cards to Dunkin’ Donuts or Big Y.

Blood donations take approximately 45 minutes to complete. To donate blood, you must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds, have a photo ID, be in good health (no colds or sore throat) and not have donated blood within the past eight weeks. Please be sure to have a good meal prior to donating, drink plenty of fluids and bring along any lists of medications that you are currently taking.

One hundred percent of all blood collected on the Baystate Health blood mobile stays in our community for use in all Baystate Health hospitals.”

Free senior health fair

The largest senior health fair in Franklin County happens from 9 to 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 26. Vendors who provide programs and services for seniors will be in the YMCA’s gym. The Y staff will conduct fitness assessments for those ages 60 and over and will discuss with each person how to improve in each of the six fitness areas. At 11:45 a.m., a “Just Roots” soup lunch will be offered, and a guest presenter will be speak on pain management. The Health Fair is co-sponsored by Baystate Franklin Medical Center and the YMCA and is free and open to the public.

G.I.F.T. self-hypnosis

Learn self hypnosis and stay on track through the holidays. This season, give yourself the G.I.F.T. self hypnosis program to help navigate holiday stress and stay on track with your weight and exercise plans. You will learn hypnosis for stress management and how to give yourself effective suggestions to keep you on course. Wednesdays (Nov. 2, 9, 16) from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the YMCA on Main Street in Greenfield. Fees are Y members $59 and nonmembers $69.
