Between The Uprights locked up the No. 1 seed in the upcoming playoffs by defeating Travel Kuz, 25-6, in Greenfield Men’s Touch Football action Sunday in Greenfield.

BTU remained unbeaten with the victory over the defending league champions. Pat Viencek had a big day, hitting Bill Roussell, Ben Banash, Cody Underwood and Curtis Weaver for touchdowns, and Underwood added an extra point attempt.

BTU’s league-leading defense was paced by Tommy Richmond, Austin Watroba and Clemente Watroba, each of whom recorded one interception.

Bryan Adamski hit Jon Hall with a 12-yard touchdown pass in the loss, and the Travel Kuz offensive line of John Redeker, Zach Bitzer and Scott Minckler had a solid day.

• Meanwhile, Jesse Phelps threw for three touchdowns, including his team-leading sixth to Parker Hickey this season, and Sirum’s Autobody topped Rocketfusion.com, 22-0.

Adam Wroblewski and Zach Butynski also caught touchdowns in the win, and Alex Pirozhkov caught an extra point. Pat Demech, Antwon Irene and Adam Bassett paced the Sirum defense, which is the most improved in the league this season.

• In other action, Jalen Sanders scored a pair of receiving touchdowns, and added another on a 22-yard interception return as Platform Titans defeated Shelburne Falls Bowling Alley, 18-0.

Josh Thibodeau threw the two touchdowns to Sanders, while Eric Hernandez, Jason Quinn and Anthony Cooper all had strong days defensively.

Ryan Keilty, Jeremy Benz and Mike Murray each played well in the loss.

• Finally, Mitch Carey found Wa Perry for a pair of long touchdowns and the Green Dragons defeated Johnson Controls, 13-6.

James Miller scored on a 7-yard touchdown run in the first quarter to give Johnson the early lead, but Perry’s two touchdown receptions pushed the Dragons to the lead. Tyson Dowdy added an extra point.

Jo Jo Ratcliffe had 10 catches in the loss, and Sam Parker and Jae Roberge each played well defensively.

Preps

Charlemont falls

The Academy at Charlemont scored four times in the second half but could not climb out of a five-goal deficit as it fell to Putney School, 5-4, in a River Valley Athletic League boys’ soccer game Monday in Putney, Vt.

Putney led 5-0 at the break but had to hold on as Charlemont rallied in the second half. Aiden Brenizer led the charge with three goals and four assists, and Nat Boyd-Owens also scored. Tucker Boyd, Jaromil Topolski and Winston Posner each played well in the loss.

Bohonowicz Fun Run

A Fun Run/Walk in memory of Janice Bohonowicz will take place Oct. 30 at 8:30 a.m. at the Body Shoppe in Greenfield.

There is no pre-registration and entry is free for the event, which features a 5K run and 2-mile walk. Participants are invited to contribute to the Janice Bohonowicz fund c/o Friends of Greenfield Library, which will help purchase books for the children’s wing of the library.

Youth basketball

Orange Rec girls’ program

The Orange Recreation Association is currently registering girls in grades 4 though 7 for its Girls’ Basketball Program.

The program is broken up into two teams (grades 4 and 5, and grades 6 and 7) and runs from Oct. 26 through Jan. 22. Group skills assessment will take place on Oct. 26 and Oct. 27 at Fisher Hill School in Orange, and grades 4 and 5 practice will take place from 3:30 until 4:15, and grades 6 and 7 will practice from 4:30 until 5:15. There is a small registration fee that includes an Orange Rec team T-shirt.

Girls will be placed on a team and will practice one day a week, and will have one weekday and one Saturday morning game. The program ends with a playoff week, culminating in a championship game and a potluck supper/awards ceremony.

JS Rae results

Danny Szafran went 1-for-3 with a stolen base and a run scored but JS Rae suffered a 11-2 loss to Chicopee during Fall Baseball League Varsity Division play Sunday in Buckland.

Nic Williams had one hit, one RBI and a run scored, and Tommy Carroll and Cody Letourneau each had a hit.

• Earlier Sunday, Eliot Mousseau singled, doubled and scored twice to help JS Rae to a 6-1 win over Ludlow in East Longmeadow.

Jared Ackerman went 2-for-3 in the win, and Sam Bobala singled and drove in a run. Carroll struck out two in three innings to earn the win, and also had one hit and one RBI.

• In Junior Varsity playoff action, Anthony Moffatt struck out five in three innings, and Tucker Mills struck out six in three innings but JS Rae suffered a 5-2 loss to Longmeadow at Dippipo Field in Longmeadow.

The loss eliminated the JV team from the postseason.

Christian Tillona had a hit and an RBI in the loss, Moffatt, Iain Sanislo and Reuben Bassett each had hits, and Jared Jacobs drove in a run.

• Also over the weekend, Cullen Brown and Elijah Sanislo each had hits during a 12-0 loss to East Longmeadow.

• In Grades 7/8 action, Conner Bobala had two hits, including a three-run double to help JS Rae to a 22-4 win over Westfield Blue at Jachym Field in Westfield.

Reuben Bassett had two hits in the win, and Matt Pollen, Aiden Drury, Sam Schriber, Austin Gilbert and Nick Boesel-Stravino each had one hit. Pollen picked up the win.

Basketball

DRIVE Boys’ Varsity

Torsten Sloan-Anderson scored 17 points Sunday and Ian Eckler added 16 as the Warriors outlasted Smith Voke, 45-44, in a DRIVE Boys’ Varsity Basketball League game at Pioneer Valley Regional School in Northfield.

Luis Acosta led all scorers with 18 points in the loss.

• In other action, Tyler Martin scored 13 points, and Tucker Llewelyn added 12 points to help Whitney Fence to a 63-52 win over Frontier.

Ben Lowe paced Fronter with 17 points.

• Finally, Kevin Mendez netted 25 points and Greenfield beat Brattleboro, 46-35.

Kyle Derosier scored 11 points in the loss.

DRIVE MS Boys

Owen Morse and Adam Hernandez each scored 12 points Sunday as Frontier bested Twin Valley, 53-30, in a DRIVE Hoops Boys’ Middle School Basketball League game at Pioneer.

Colin McHale finished with a dozen points in the loss.

• Meanwhile, Brayden Tudryn’s 21 points helped Hadley to a 47-32 win over Pioneer.

Andrew Ciaglo added 12 points in the win. Jared Hubbard finished with 16 points for Pioneer.

• Finally, Greg Fitzgerald scored 10 points and the Raptors beat FC United, 50-15.

Sam Gibson scored 8 points for the losers.

DRIVE Girls’ Varsity

Brianna Jobst netted 9 points and the Panthers edged Keene, 28-24, in a DRIVE Hoops Girls’ Varsity Basketball League game Sunday at Stoneleigh-Burnham School in Greenfield.

Sarah Hunter finished with 8 points in the loss.

• In other action, Skylar Leclair dumped in 16 points and Hinsdale beat Riff’s North of Turners Falls, 38-33.

Maddy Chmyzinski led all scorers with 18 points for Riff’s.

• Also, Ella Collins finished with 13 points and VT Academy bested Monadnock, 39-32.

Julia Tindell finished with 10 points in the loss.

• Finally, Sarah Hunter’s 9 points helped Keene outlast Brattleboro, 29-28.
