The Greenfield Suburban League basketball program will hold tryouts for the grades 5 and 6 and 7 and 8 teams on Monday and Oct. 24 at Greenfield High School.
The tryouts will both run from 6-7:30 p.m. and players in grades 4 are welcome to try out for the 5 and 6 team. Players are expected to tryout on both dates.
To be eligible, players must reside in Greenfield or attend a Greenfield school. There are costs associated with the program, and financial assistance is available. The season runs from early November through February, with 16 games (eight home and eight away), plus the playoffs. Teams will practice weekly at Greenfield Middle School.

Pioneer Suburban tryouts
Pioneer Suburban Basketball will hold an information meeting Tuesday at 6:45 p.m. in the Bernardston Elementary School gym for parents and players about the upcoming season.
Tryouts for both the grades 5 and 6 and grades 7 and 8 teams will be held on Nov. 1 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Pioneer Valley Regional School gym.
Players must live in or attend school in the Pioneer Valley Regional School district in order to participate.

Blizzard fundraiser
The Western Mass. Blizzard Girls’ Under-14 hockey team is holding a Comedy Night Fundraiser to help pay for the team’s trip to Lake Placid, N.Y., for the prestigious Can Am Tournament.
The fundraiser takes place at East Mountain Country Club in Westfield on Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. and features the comedy of Mike Koutrobis. There will be music, food, entertainment and raffles, and tickets cost $25.
Five area girls — Chloe Cutting, Jillian Johnson, Heather French, Hannah Roche and Suzannah Toledo-Cornman — are all part of the team.
Mohawk softball coaching vacancy
Mohawk Trail Regional High School is looking for anyone interested in coaching softball at all levels for the 2017 season.
