GREENFIELD — Encouraging more millennials to become involved in politics and government is an effort that state Senate President Stan Rosenberg and others have targeted.
To that end, a millennial engagement open forum, put on by the Franklin County Young Professionals Group, a program of the United Way of Franklin County, in partnership with Rosenberg, is scheduled for Oct. 27, at the Greenfield Community College Dinning Commons. Doors open at 4:30 p.m., and the program begins at 5. Student groups from area high schools and colleges will be in attendance — the event is free and open to the public.
“The absence of participation by the millennials means that we are not necessarily understanding as we need to what their issues are, what their agenda is that they would like the legislature to focus on,” Rosenberg said in a press release.
This desire to have young people involved resulted in the Millennial Engagement Initiative (MEI), co-chaired by Rosenberg and Sen. Eric Lesser.
“Last year the Senate listened to the concerns of thousands of residents during our Commonwealth Conversations tour. This initiative focuses on the concerns of millennials, who have important perspectives and ideas that deserve to be heard,” Rosenberg said. “Sen. Lesser and I are passionate about making sure we’re out there, talking with young people and bringing their insights back to the Senate.”
