This missive is directed to those opposed to the military and its veterans and, especially, Mr. Doerner.
Mr. Doerner, one line in your piece that was printed in The Recorder on Sept. 10 that caused me to write this letter:
You wrote “the majority of the killings were made by veterans.” If you meant “gang veterans,” I would agree, but if you meant “military veterans,” you are so wrong.
As a combat military veteran, I resent being called a killer. Just because we were taught to kill the enemy before they killed us does not mean we enjoy killing people for any reason. Why are you so against the military and their veterans when they are protecting you 24/7? They are making it possible for you to sit in the privacy of your home dreaming and writing of questionable issues. Your writings are so much in left field that they are out of the ballpark.
By the way, one of the first government departments to be established was the military, which was established by the First Continental Congress in 1775. Evidently, protection was one of the first items that was on their mind.
