Granby High School scored in each half to get past Frontier Regional School, 2-0, in a Pioneer North Division girls’ soccer match Thursday in Granby.

Tristen Burger notched the Rams’ first goal in the 25th minute, assisted by Julia Frappier. It remained that way until the 75th minute, when Nora Young converted pass from Erin Mikalchus.

Brooklyn Baran made 3 saves for Granby, which outshot the Red Hawks, 26-6. Eliza Desmarais and Alexa Boyden each made 7 saves for Frontier.

“I thought the girls played well, but in the final third we just couldn’t string the passes together,” said Red Hawks coach Phil Pittelli. “Despite the loss, this was one of the better games we’ve played lately.”

Frontier (4-6-0) hosts Gateway Regional High School Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Pioneer 1, Ware 1 — Pioneer Valley Regional School got an early goal and hung on to earn a 1-1 draw with Ware High School in an independent girls’ soccer match Thursday in Northfield.

Stephanie Alden’s ninth-minute goal from Aiden Gries put the Panthers up 1-0, but the Indians pulled even in the 57th minute on a marker from Michelle Zawalski. Megan Sidur was credited with the assist.

Pioneer was able to withstand a fierce Ware attack, as it was outshot 18-8.

Leah Fuess registered 17 saves for the Panthers, while Ashley Grout had 7 stops for the Indians.

“I really, really wanted to pull through with a win,” said Panther head coach Nikki Pullen. “Our focus in practice has been smart passing, and we executed that really well (today).”

FC Tech 1, Westfield Tech 1 — All of the offense came in the last seven minutes as Franklin County Technical School and Westfield Technical Academy played to a 1-1 draw in Tri-County League girls’ soccer play Thursday in Westfield.

The Tigers scored in the 74th minute when Ilona Gladysh got a through ball to Liliya Stepanchuk, who went in alone on Eagles goalkeeper Tabi Hamilton and snuck a shot past her.

Franklin Tech evened it up just two minutes later when Brooke Adams received a pass from Kate Garcia and ripped a 20-yard shot into the upper far corner.

Hamilton finished with 13 saves for the Eagles (3-5-3, 2-5-3 TCL), and Diana Solokhina had 4 stops for Westfield (2-7-2, 2-6-2).

Easthampton 4, Athol 1 — Maddie Grabowski scored twice Thursday and Easthampton High School edged Athol High School, 4-1, in a Pioneer North Division girls’ soccer game in Athol.

Juli Korza sandwiched a goal in between Grabowski’s pair in the first half to give the Eagles a 3-0 lead at the break. Athol came back to make things interesting in the second half as Angelica Baptista bent a corner kick into the Easthampton net past Lily Pioli to bring the Red Raiders to within 3-1. Athol had a chance to tighten the gap even more with 16 minutes left when a shot rang off the post and deflected out.

“If that ball goes in, it’s a one-goal game with 16 minutes to go,” Athol coach Tim Cleveland said. “We just didn’t get a bounce there. And their coach called a timeout after that and settled them down.”

Andie Hall sealed the win late in the game with an unassisted goal.
