Medalist Travis Cutting fired a 43 and took 3½ points to help Franklin County Technical School complete a sweep of village rival Turners Falls High School with a 20½-3½ Bi-County League Northern Division golf win Thursday at Thomas Memorial Golf & Country Club in Turners Falls.
Hunter Sessions carded a 45 and swept 4 points while Dante Rosado shot a 46 and also took 4 points for the Eagles, who improved to 3-8 overall and 3-4 in the North.
Kyle Kucenski carded a 47 and took 3 points for the Indians (2-8, 1-6 North).
Greenfield 23, Mohawk 1 — Tyler Boissonneault and Christian LaPlante each shot 43 and swept 4 points to lead Greenfield High School over Mohawk Trail Regional High School, 23-1, in BCL North golf action Thursday at the Country Club of Greenfield.
Hunter Roberts (45), George Balis (46) and Ross Akey all added 4 points and Gabe Larouche contributed 3 points for the Green Wave (5-3, 4-3).
Sam Nelson took the Warriors’ only point.
McCann 13, Pioneer 11 — Jake Tower and Dalton Tatro combined for 6½ points in the final two matches to beat Pioneer Valley Regional School, 13-11, in a BCL North golf match Thursday at Forest Park Country Club in Adams.
Match medalist Bradley Tatro (38) and Ryan Barron both chipped in 3 points apiece for the Hornets (6-2, 5-2).
Garrett Cote carded a 42 and swept 4 points for the Panthers (8-2, 5-2), while Sam Kitfield-Vernon had a 43 and 3½ points. Jake Willis was medalist with a 39.
Mahar 13½, Smith Academy 10½ — Zach Geyster took 3½ points to help Mahar Regional School defeat Smith Academy, 13½-10½, in a BCL East golf match Thursday at Ellinwood Country Club in Athol.
Matthew Herk (46), Corey Sanderosn (47) and Brandon Green all added 3 points for the Senators (4-4, 4-3 East).
Finn O’Connor and Hunter Zygmont both took 3½ points for the Falcons (3-5, 3-4).
Mohawk 2, Amherst 0 — Mohawk Trail Regional High School scored once in each half to blank Amherst Regional High School, 2-0, in an independent field hockey game Thursday afternoon in Amherst.
Christina Lively gave the Warriors (3-5-0) a 1-0 lead in the first half when she took a pass from Ashley Walker. Alicia Johnston made it 2-0 with 12 minutes left in the second half when she finished off a pass from Mikayla Bompastore.
“It was a really good team effort today,” Mohawk coach Alina Schmidt said. “Everyone was very selfless with the ball. The girls were taking it into the circle and executing on their shots.”
Eloise Perrea made one save to earn the shutout.
Lindsey Campbell made eight saves in the loss.
Athol 8, Central 0 — Lexi Cucchi scored four times Thursday and Athol High School picked up its first win of the season with a 8-0 victory over Central High School in West Division field hockey action in Athol.
Athol (1-7-0) scored six times in the second half to bury the Golden Eagles (0-5-1).
Nina Alvarez scored twice and had one assist in the win, while Maddie Truehart added one goal and one assist. Starting goalie Hudson Carlson got the chance to play in the field on the day and he responded with a goal, and Makenna Collins added one assist.
Joslyn Jaillet did not have to make a save to earn her first career shutout.
Holyoke 4, Pioneer 0 — Katie Keane had one goal and two assists Thursday as Holyoke High School defeated Pioneer, 4-0, in a West Division field hockey game in Holyoke.
Holyoke led 3-0 at the break and held the Panthers (4-3-1) without a shot in the game. Bella Courchesne, Kassidy Lawrence and Taryn O’Sullivan each added a goal in the win. Liza Keane had a pair of assists.
Steph Scoville stopped 15 shots in the loss.
Longmeadow 5, Mahar 0 — Claire Fitzpatrick scored three times Thursday to lead Longmeadow High School to a 5-0 win over Mahar Regional School in an independent field hockey game in Longmeadow.
Hailey Daigneault had two goals for Longmeadow, and Margaret Moriarty had the only assist in the win. Longmeadow outshot Mahar, 14-0, and Mahar netminder Hannah Birch stopped nine shots in the loss.
Mahar 3, Pioneer 1 — Maeve Powell registered 10 kills and 5 aces to lead Mahar Regional School to a 25-19, 26-24, 25-20, 25-22 Northern Division victory over Pioneer Valley Regional School in girls’ volleyball action Thursday night at Messer Gymnasium in Northfield.
Aria Flematti dished out 16 assists and added 2 aces, Sophie Smith totaled 6 kills and 7 aces, and Lauren Henne chipped in 14 digs and 5 aces for the Senators (2-7, 2-2).
Hanna Buedinger led the Panthers (1-8, 1-4) with 20 digs, 4 aces and 2 kills. Caroline Merkle added 17 assists and 8 aces, and Lizzie Fuller had 20 digs 2 kills 3 aces
Athol 3, Mohawk 1 — Hope Parker piled up 13 kills and eight aces Thurdsay to lead Athol High School to a 25-14, 24-26, 25-18, 25-16 win over Mohawk Trail Regional High School in a PVIAC North Division girls’ volleyball match in Buckland.
Julia Ramos had seven aces and 18 assists for the North-leading Red Raiders (9-2, 4-0). Jess Soucie had six kills and five aces.
Ashley Reynolds finished with 18 assists, two aces, three digs and a kill for Mohawk (0-7), while Lexi Mazza led the Warriors in kills with nine to go along with seven digs and four aces. Olivia Dubrule added five kills, six digs and four aces.
