Angel Rivera and Colby Soltysik each scored two first-half goals to give Athol High School a 6-0 lead at the break and the Red Raiders went on to dump Narragansett Regional High School, 8-0, in an independent boys’ soccer game Saturday night during Homecoming festivities.

Rivera set up the game’s first goal on a corner kick that was headed home by Fish just 2 minutes, 30 seconds in. Then Rivera struck for back-to-back goals to put the hosts up 3-0 by the 10-minute mark. Rivera’s first of the game came on a one-timer from 35 yards out. His second came when he went in on the goalie and beat him.

Justin Blake made it 4-0 by finishing off a feed from Bryce King, and Soltysik got his first of the day with 11 minutes left in the first half by taking a pass from Maysin Tarbell and finishing it off. Just over a minute later, Soltysik struck again, this time on a pass from Parker Deleo.

Jordan Carrasquillo scored in the second half on King’s second helper of the day, and Avery Clyatt finished the scoring on a penalty kick with two minutes left. Colby Mason stopped two shots to earn the shutout.

Athol (4-1-2) hosts South Hadley High School tonight at 7.

Girls’ soccer

Athol 5, Narragansett 1 — Julia Carey scored three times Saturday to lead Athol to a 5-1 independent girls’ soccer win over Narragansett Saturday on Homecoming Day in Athol.

Athol scored twice in the first half, when Carey and Amber Mahoney each found the back of the net, giving the Red Raiders a 2-1 halftime lead. In the second, Carey scored twice to complete her hat trick, and Mahoney added her second of the day, giving her two goals and one assist.

Peyton Parker and Taylor Cleveland split time in net and combined on four saves.

Field hockey

Turners Falls 3, Athol 0 — Hattie Harvey and Ali McKenna each scored in the first half and Turners Falls High School upended Athol, 3-0, in a West Division field hockey game Saturday morning in another Homecoming event in Athol.

Harvey finished off a feed from Amber Taylor nine minutes into the game to put the Indians (4-2-1 overall, 4-0-1 West) out front. McKenna made it 2-0 nine minutes later on an assist from Snejana Lashtier. Cassidhe Wozniak added a goal from Aly Murphy early in the second half to complete the scoring. Maddie Currier stopped the only shot she faced to register the shutout.

Hudson Carlson made 15 saves in the loss.

Girls’ volleyball

Athol 3, Ware 0 — Hope Parker had 15 kills and three digs and Athol knocked off Ware High School, 25-14, 25-14, 25-16, in an independent girls’ volleyball match Saturday on Homecoming Day in Athol.

Jess Soucie had 10 kills and three digs for the Red Raiders (6-2), and Julia Ramos finished with 24 assists.

Melrose 3, Frontier 0 — Lauren Davenport finished with seven kills and 11 digs on Saturday but Frontier Regional School suffered a 25-14, 25-14, 25-16 loss to Melrose High School in an independent girls’ volleyball match.

Selayna Bathurst finished with six kills and nine digs for the Red Hawks (4-4), and Hailey Orloski had four kills. Ella Deane registered 18 asssits and eight digs, Sarah Zoly had seven digs, Bri Thurber had five digs, and Penelope Hosley had one ace and four digs.
