GREENFIELD — Greenfield High School Principal Donna Woodcock is on an “unexpected leave of absence,” according to a letter from Superintendent Jordana Harper to staff and students’ families Wednesday.

Harper’s letter said Associate Principal Karin Patenaude will step into the role of acting principal.

Harper also said that it is unclear at this time when Woodcock will be able to resume her duties.

Harper added that she won’t be disclosing any further details concerning Woodcock during her absence for privacy reasons.

“Of course, I lead the entire GPS community in wishing her well,” Harper concluded.

Woodcock has been principal at GHS for eight years.

Prior to that she was a long-time award-winning field hockey, basketball and softball coach.

She has also been the school’s athletic director and assistant principal.

School Committee chairman Tim Farrell deferred requests for comment to Harper, who could not be reached for comment before press time Thursday night.
