A second-half tally was all Turners Falls High School needed as it outlasted Franklin County Technical School, 1-0, in a PVIAC West Division field hockey game Monday at Franklin Tech.

Cassidhe Wozniak scored the only goal of the contest for the Indians with 16 minutes left in the second half. Julia Sprankle was credited with the assist.

Turners earned the win despite being outshot 12-7 and outcornered 6-2.

Maddie Currier turned aside all 12 shots she faced to record the shutout.

Kailynn Mason-Emond made 6 saves in the Eagles’ net.

Franklin Tech hosts Central High School today at 4 p.m.

Frontier 3, Mahar 1 — McKenzie Patterson scored a goal and added an assist Monday night as Frontier Regional School defeated Mahar Regional School, 3-1, in a North Division field hockey game at the Woodward Complex in Orange.

Frontier eighth-grader Skyla Burniske came 48 seconds away from registering her second shutout of the season but Mahar’s Joslyn O’Brien scored on an assist from Kadie Jillson to snap the bid.

Frontier scored two first-half goals in rapid fashion. Alexis Ackerman opened the scoring 2 minutes, 5 seconds into the game on an assist from Patterson, and Hannah Roche scored an unassisted goal two minutes later for a 2-0 lead.

That was the only scoring until Patterson scored in the second half on an assist from Ashley Borkowski.

Burniske made three saves to earn the win, and Hannah Birch stopped seven shots in the loss.

Frontier (2-1) travels to Turners Falls Wednesday, while Mahar hosts Quabbin Regional High School tonight at 7.

Greenfield 8, Southwick 0 — Raegan Hickey scored three times and Olivia Joy added a pair of goals as Greenfield High School cruised past Southwick-Tolland Regional High School, 8-0, in an independent field hockey game Monday afternoon in Greenfield.

The Green Wave (2-0) was coming off a season-opening 4-2 win over defending WMass Division II champion Frontier Regional School Friday and continued to play well against the Rams. Greenfield jumped out to a 5-0 first-half lead, which was plenty for goalie Sam Smith, who stopped all seven shots she faced for the shutout.

Audrey Bresciano had one goal and two assists in the win, and Ashley Hubbard and Kirsten Ward each had one goal.

“We are playing really well together right now,” Green Wave coach Erin Thayer said. “We are pressuring the ball well, attacking the ball and seeing the passing lanes well. Our communication is really good for the first time in a long time. It’s really coming together.”
