Olivia Joy scored two second half goals to help Greenfield High School comeback to earn a 4-2 win over Frontier Regional School in a North Division field hockey game Friday in South Deerfield.

The Red Hawks got off to a fast start scoring 28 seconds into the game on a goal from Olivia Vecellio to spot the home team a 1-0 lead but it was Raegan Hickey who would quickly tie the game for the Green Wave 7 minutes later scoring on a pass from Audrey Bresciano. The Red Hawks who would take the lead heading into halftime as Ashley Borkowski scored a goal with 10 minutes remaining in the half on an assist from Camille Alli.

Hickey would add her second game tying goal in the first minute of the second half before Joy added her two tallies to give the Green Wave the hard fought win.

“We broke down on the defensive end,” said Frontier coach Missy Maher “Greenfield really capitalized on our mistakes but that is an aspect of the game we can work on.”

Bresciano finished with two assists for Greenfield. Goalie Samantha Smith blocked 8 shots.

Skyla Burniski recorded 16 saves in net for Frontier.

Pioneer 3, Turners Falls 3 — Turners Falls High School roared back from a three-goal halftime deficit with three unanswered second-half goals and the Indians earned a 3-3 draw with Pioneer Valley Regional School Friday afternoon at the Bourdeau Fields Complex in Turners Falls.

The Panthers scored early and often to mount the 3-0 lead that they would take into the break but the Indians reset themselves during the intermission and flipped the script in the second half, scoring twice in the first 10 minutes before Samantha Kolodziej tied the game with 6 minutes, 18 seconds left on an assist from Nicole Thibeault.

“Pioneer scored in the first three minutes of the game and we just panicked,” Turners Falls coach Megan Gilbert said. “I think after the half, the girls just started to mold together. We came out in the second half with the mindset that it was a 0-0 game and I think it showed.”

Amelia Pelletier opened the scoring 2 minutes, 12 seconds into the game on an assist from Jess Scoville, and Scoville made it 2-0 five minutes later on a helper by Olivia Rowe. Elizabeth Sweeney made it 3-0 with 18:50 left in the first half.

Snejana Lashtur got the Indians on the board in the second half from Hattie Harvey. Cassidhe Wozniak scored her fourth goal of the season with 21 minutes left, and Kolodziej tied the game late.

Steph Scoville made 14 saves in the Pioneer net, while Maddie Currier made 12 saves for Turners Falls.

Turners Falls will also hold a free car wash at the Public Safety Complex in Turners Falls today from 9:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.

Mohawk 3, FC Tech 0 — Rebecca Scranton scored twice on Friday and Mohawk Trail Regional High School defeated Franklin County Technical School, 3-0, in an independent field hockey game Friday in Turners Falls.

The Warriors led 1-0 at the break thanks to a goal by Abbie Boswell, and Scranton added her pair in the second half.

Mohawk outshot the Eagles, 19-0, and Eloise Perrea did not have to make a save to earn her first career shutout. Kailynn Mason-Emond made 16 saves in the loss.

Southwick 2, Athol 0 — Emily Martin had a goal and an assist and Southwick-Tolland Regional High School defeated Athol High School, 2-0, in a West Division field hockey game Friday afternoon in Athol.

Lyle Massoia also scored for the Rams, who led 1-0 at the break. Sarah Power did not make a save to record the shutout.

Hudson Carlson continued his stellar play in the Red Raiders’ goal, stopping 16 shots.

Volleyball

Easthampton 3, Greenfield 0 — Veronica Hing notched 3 aces and 5 assists as Easthampton High School rolled to a 25-20, 25-23, 25-22 win over Greenfield High School in an independent girls’ volleyball match Friday in Easthampton.

Molly Duclos led the Green Wave with 10 kills and 3 aces while Amy Muniz finished with 9 assists and 4 kills and Casey Noyes chipped in with 12 digs, 5 assists and 3 aces.

Belchertown 3, Mahar 0 — Cara McKenzie finished with 7 kills, 3 blocks and an ace to lead Belchertown High School to a 25-9, 30-28, 25-20 win over Mahar Regional School in an independent girls’ volleyball match Friday in Belchertown.

Sophie Smith led the way for Mahar with 14 digs and 4 aces while Lauren Henne recorded 6 aces and Serenity Eastman notched 3 kills and 4 aces.

Chicopee 3, Pioneer 0 — Madison Tyson finished with 10 kills, 5 aces and 2 blocks for Pioneer but it was not enough as Chicopee High School defeated the Panthers 25-12, 25-17, 24-26, 25-21 in an independent girls’ volleyball game Friday in Northfield.

Caroline Merkle also played well for Pioneer recording 20 assists, 5 aces and 2 kills in the loss.

Southwick 3, FC Tech 0 — Alexandra Methe finished with 10 aces, 5 assists and a kill as Southwick-Tolland Regional High School defeated Franklin County Tech, 25-22, 25-23, 25-14 in an independent girls’ volleyball match Friday in Turners Falls.

Joceyn Holloway recorded 2 aces, 2 kills and 4 digs for Franklin County Technical High School while Kimberly Petrowicz notched 4 aces.

Lee 3, Athol 0 — Kendra Williams tallied 21 assists and 4 aces as Lee High School downed Athol High School 25-13, 25-21, 25-13 in an independent girls’ volleyball game Friday night in Lee.

Hope Parker finished with 15 digs, 8 kills and 3 aces for Athol while teammate Abby Leadbetter added 8 digs and 2 assists.

Golf

Frontier 17, Sabis 7 — Mike Corduff shot 39 and took 3 ½ points to lead Frontier to a 17-7 win over Sabis Charter School in an independent golf match Friday at Cherry Hill Golf Course in Amherst.

Corduff tied for match medalist honors with Michael Bushey of Sabis.

Scott Pelis (47) took 4 points while Brian Baumann (40) and Rowan Blair each took 3½.
