GREENFIELD — Water bubbled up from a break in a town water main at the intersection of Silver Street and Dunnell Road late Wednesday morning around 11 a.m.
Paul Raskevitz, field superintendent and tree warden at the Department of Public Works, estimated it would take at least a few hours for crews to fix it. Just about an hour after the break was reported, a crew of about seven workers shut down the water main, and watched as the river of water coursing down the road dissipated into mud.
Shortly after, repair work began.
According to Raskevitz, at least two people in the area will be affected by the break by losing water. He also said the DPW is doing work elsewhere in town on a water tank, which probably had an impact on the break.
Town police officers blocked off the road at Federal Street on one end of Silver Street, and High Street at the other. The road was also shut down at Dunnell Road. Firefighters were also on scene helping out with an engine.
