Bryan Adamski connected on touchdown passes to Adam Bastarache and Kendall Schneider and defending champion Travel Kuz edged Sirum’s, 12-6, in a the season-opening weekend of the Greenfield Men’s Touch Football League over the weekend.

Jesse Phelps hit Andy Wroblewski with a touchdown in the loss.

• In other action, Ryan Keilty hit Dave Nelewanski with a 31-yard touchdown pass as the Ball Hawks beat Rocketfusion.com, 12-6.

Jesse Sheldon added a first-quarter interception return for a touchdown in the win.

Nick Aldrich found Tyson Dowdy on a 21-yard touchdown pass in the first half for the lone touchdown in the loss.

• Finally, Pat Viencek hit Curtis Weaver on a pair of long touchdown passes and Between the Uprights knocked of Platform Bar Titans, 21-6.

Jake MacLeay also caught a touchdown in the win, and joined Cory Underwood in catching extra points. Visit Keo hit Seth Main on a 12-yard touchdown pass for Platform.

CCG Women’s

The Country Club of Greenfield Women’s Golf League held a Ryder Cup format tournament (three holes each of best ball, scramble and alternate shot format).

Margo Worden and Sue McDonald were the net winners with a 28.5, while Ellen Bitzer and Kim French were second with a 29 after matching cards with Donna Mowry and Karen Kaczenski.

Nancy Robie and Tami Gaylor combined for a 38 to secure low gross honors. Sherry Chaffee and Ann McHugh were second at 39, while Dawn Bete and Michele Hazlett carded a 40 to finish third.

Duane Nelson Memorial

Gene LaCoy, Bob LaCoy, Jon Snow and Mark Letourneau shot a 60 to win the inaugural Duane Nelson Memorial Golf Tournament Saturday at Oak Ridge Golf Course in Gill.

Preston Grindle, Al Holmes, Doc Malloy and Steve Prondecki came in second with a 61, and Janet Small, Tim Bernard, Andy Chartier and Bill Tsai took third with a 63.

Sunny Lucas won the men’s long drive on No. 3 and Sally Malloy won the women’s competition. Holmes and Small won the closest to the pin on No. 9, and Corey Wallace won the closest to the line on No. 1.

Mark K. Memorial Mixed

Tim Richter, Dave Shippa, Bob Wondoloski and Rod Roberge shot a 61 to win the Mark K. Memorial Mixed Golf League Monday night at Oak Ridge Golf Course.

Al Holmes, Dan Malloy, Stan Modrzakowski and Al Blanchard Jr. finished second with a 63.

The end of the year final outing will take place Sept. 24 at 8 a.m.

Edge Hill Senior Club

Paul Champigny shot a 162 to win the Senior Club Championship at Edge Hill Golf Course in Ashfield over the weekend.

The 81-year-old shot an 80 on Saturday and an 82 on Sunday to average his age. Mark Vandale won low net with a two-day score of 134.

Deb Vandale won the ladies gross with a 182, and June Heideman won low net with a 133.

EDGE tournament

The 10th annual Edge Basketball Golf Tournament will be held Sept. 17 at Northfield Golf Course.

Entry fee for the 9 a.m. shotgun start event is $260 per team and includes 18 holes of golf with a cart, food on the course throughout the day, prizes and a post-tournament meal and prizes.

Officials classes

The Hampshire-Franklin Association of Approved Basketball Officials Board 28 will hold classes for new candidates on Wednesday nights at 7 from Sept. 28 through Nov. 16 at Amherst Regional High School.

The board is responsible for officiating high school and middle school basketball games in Hampshire and Franklin Counties. Candidates should sign up for the classes that will prepare them two take the two-part IAABO National New Candidates Exam on Nov. 7 and Nov. 21. The classes will be facilitated by Andy Rogers and Jim Cleveland and cost is $175, which includes rulebook, materials and national exam fee. Candidates will also be required to pass a national background check in order to be certified.

The 22nd annual Don Maynard Memorial 5-Mile Road Race and 3-mile walk will held Sept. 17 at 9:30 a.m. at the Green River Swimming & Recreation Area.

The Greenfield Recreation Department is offering youth soccer programs for Grades K-6 this fall.

• Peewee Soccer — For boys and girls in grades K through 2. The program is a small field, 3 vs. 3 program, which introduces passing, dribbling and shooting skills with weekly instruction and scrimmages. The program runs Saturdays from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. from Sept. 10 through Oct. 29 at the Green River Swimming & Recreation Area. and costs $30 for residents and $35 for nonresidents.

• Travel Junior League — For grades 3 and 4 with practices once during the week and games on Saturday mornings. Teams travel to surrounding towns as part of the Tri-County League for games. Cost is $45 for residents and $50 for non-residents.

• Travel Senior League — For grades 5 and 6 with practices once during the week and games on Saturday mornings. Teams travel to surrounding towns as part of the Tri-County League for games. Cost is $45 for residents and $50 for nonresidents.

Deadline to register for all leagues is Friday and a $5 late fee will be assessed for late registrations.
