Ross Akey will never forget the ninth hole at the Country Club of Greenfield.
The Greenfield resident registered his first career ace Monday on the 120-yard, par-3 hole.
Akey used a pitching wedge and the feat was witnessed by George Balis, Christian LaPlante and Connor Pedigree.
Monday Ladies League
Tilly Clark shot a 43 to win low gross in the A Division of the Monday Night Ladies League during the “3 Clubs and a Putter” Tournament at the Country Club of Greenfield.
Nancy Robie won low net with a 34.
Anne Corrinet won low gross in the B Division with a 49, while Marti Stilees won low net with a 37. Bonnie Duprey captured the C Division with a 49, and Anna Holhut won low net with a 34.
Babe Ruth Fall Ball
The Franklin County Babe Ruth Fall Baseball League will hold registrations Wednesday and Thursday night from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Abercrombie Field in Greenfield.
The team is open to players ages 12 and 13 (as of April 30, 2016), and home games will be played at Abercrombie Field on a 90-foot diamond.

EDGE tournament
The 10th annual Edge Basketball Golf Tournament will be held Sept. 17 at Northfield Golf Course.
Entry fee for the 9 a.m. shotgun start event is $260 per team and includes 18 holes of golf with a cart, food on the course throughout the day, prizes and a post-tournament meal and prizes.

The Turners Falls High School field hockey team is hosting a can/bottle drive Saturday.

Franklin Tech practice
Franklin County Technical School has announced practice times for all fall sports.
There is a mandatory informational meeting on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. in the gymnasium at the school. All parents and prospective student athletes must attend. Players will receive mandatory information on school and MIAA policies and procedures, and there will be a mandatory session on concussion safety, as well as a presentation about health risks.
As for practice times:
• Football — Monday through Friday, 3:30 to 6 p.m.
• Field hockey — Thurdsay from 5 to 7:30 p.m.
• Cross country — Thursday at 9 a.m.
• Girls’ soccer — Thursday from 4 to 6:30 p.m.

All players must have a medical exam within 13 months of the first practice date on record with the school in order to be eligible. Players are ineligible to participate on the exact day 13 months from their last physical.

Turners Falls High School has announced times and places for its opening days of practice for fall sports:
• Boys’ soccer (Turners/Franklin County Tech cooperative team) — Thursday at 3 p.m. at Franklin Tech soccer field.
• Golf — Thursday at 11 a.m. at Thomas Memorial Golf & Country Club.
• Field hockey — Varsity and middle school Thursday and Friday from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Community service on Aug. 27 from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.
• Volleyball — Varsity on Thursday and Friday from 5 to 7:30 p.m., and on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.

Pioneer fall sports
Pioneer Valley Regional School hads announced dates for fall sports and other information:
Football practice (all levels) will be held today from 8:30 to 11 a.m., Monday from 3 to 6 p.m. and Tuesday from 2:30 to 5 p.m.
On Tuesday at 5:30 p.m., the schol will host Team Night for all sports and levels. Athletes, parents and coaches are encouraged to attend. The Northwestern District Attorney’s Office will be presenting, and there will be a Meet the Coach so parents can receive their child’s team and season information.
On Thursday, practices begin for all other fall sports and levels. Practice times will be announced at Team Night.
• Pioneer is also seeking coaches for the following positions: middle school girls’ soccer, junior varsity volleyball.
Cookie Bowl
The 26th annual Cookie Bowl Canoe/Kayak/SUP Race will be held Friday at the Stockbridge Bowl.
Registration is at the Boat Ramp at 5 p.m. The race will start at 6pm. Entry fee is $10 per paddler.
Racers should be sure that their boats are zebra mussel free. Any boats that have been in infested waters must be cleaned before entering the lake.

Maynard 5-miler
The 22nd annual Don Maynard Memorial 5-Mile Road Race and 3-mile walk will held Sept. 17 at 9:30 a.m. at the Greenfield Municipal Swimming Area.
Online registration is available at www.runreg.com, and t-shirts will be give to the first 100 registered.
